daitraHello everyone, I am currently considering purchasing several Ikea Brimnes furniture pieces, specifically dressers and shelves. However, I am somewhat uncertain about how stable these pieces are without wall anchoring. The instructions usually recommend securing the furniture to the wall, which I can only partially do with my planned setup.
My question is: How stable are Ikea Brimnes furniture pieces in everyday use without wall anchoring? Are there any experiences regarding their stability, especially when the furniture is loaded with typical household items? I would prefer not to install additional wall anchors but also want to avoid any risk of tipping.
Thanks for your insights and experiences!

How stable are Ikea BRIMNES furniture pieces in everyday use without wall anchoring?Without wall anchoring, BRIMNES furniture is generally stable as long as it is not overloaded or unevenly loaded. I would definitely recommend not storing heavy items on top and placing the furniture on a level floor.
Regarding the stability of BRIMNES furniture without wall mounting, I can explain the following in detail:
1. Construction: The furniture is generally solidly built, using particleboard and back panels that provide stability.
2. Load: When subjected to heavier loads, especially on top, the risk of tipping increases significantly without wall mounting.
3. Tips for improvement:
- Move furniture with fully extended drawers slowly to avoid tipping.
- Store heavy items preferably at the bottom.
- Place on a flat, firm surface.
In summary: Without wall mounting, BRIMNES furniture should not be overloaded, and extra caution is advised for taller pieces. For homes with children or rental properties where wall mounting is not possible, using non-slip mats underneath can help improve stability.

The BRIMNES series from Ikea was designed to offer an affordable and functional product, with stability and safety being key aspects.
- According to the manufacturer, all pieces of furniture are designed so that wall attachments provide the highest level of safety.
- Without secure wall anchoring, the risk of tipping increases for dressers that are heavily or unevenly loaded.
- Tests have shown that furniture of this size is more prone to instability under heavy load conditions (e.g., drawers pushed out) when not anchored to a wall.
My advice: If it is not possible to secure the furniture, the maximum load should be reduced, and items should be stored as low as possible to keep the center of gravity low.
Additionally, I recommend regularly checking the stability, especially for frequently used models.

Additionally, I would like to add that the quality of the assembly plays a crucial role in stability without wall mounting. Precise assembly, properly aligned back panels, and secure fastening of all joints are essential. Even minor misalignments or loose screws significantly reduce stability.
Furthermore, if wall mounting is not possible, I recommend using small shims or rubber pads to compensate for uneven floors. This helps prevent unnecessary wobbling. In conclusion: The furniture is designed to be stable for its intended use, but the recommended wall anchoring should be used whenever possible. Otherwise, caution is advised when loading.
