Hello everyone, I recently bought a Pax wardrobe from IKEA and am now planning the assembly. My question is: How long does it usually take to assemble a Pax wardrobe? I’m especially interested in a medium-sized wardrobe (about 2 meters (6 ft 7 in) high, 1.50 meters (5 ft) wide) without many extras, assembled alone or with two people. It would be very helpful if you could also share your experiences regarding how the assembly time varies depending on the number of people or level of experience. Thanks in advance!

How long does it usually take to assemble a Pax wardrobe?Hey, great question – I put my Pax together last fall, and honestly, following the instructions took me almost two afternoons. 🙈
So, if it’s your first time building a Pax, you should plan for at least 4 to 6 hours, especially if you’re doing it alone. With two people, it goes faster, mainly because someone can hold the large parts (like the doors). I also recommend good preparation: checking all the components, sorting the screws, and most importantly – having patience and staying calm! 😅
If you’re already familiar with IKEA furniture, you can probably manage in about 3 to 4 hours. Also, experience makes a big difference when it comes to fitting and adjusting the sliding doors.
Good luck and don’t let it stress you out!

How long does it usually take to assemble the Pax wardrobe? To answer your question based on common experience:
- Preparation (sorting parts, laying out tools): about 20-30 minutes
- Assembling the main frame: about 1.5 to 2 hours
- Installing shelves, clothes rails, drawers, and interior fittings: 1 to 1.5 hours
- Mounting and adjusting the doors (especially sliding doors): 1 to 1.5 hours
Overall, the average assembly time is typically between 4 and 6 hours. It’s important to note that impatient or inexperienced DIYers usually take closer to the upper end.
Tip: Don’t just follow the instructions step by step; instead, think through all the steps beforehand. It also helps to have two people working together—one to hold parts while the other screws them in. This can significantly reduce the overall time.
If you already have experience with furniture assembly, the process will naturally go faster. One thing to keep in mind: patience and precision are more important than speed here, otherwise you might run into more problems later when adjusting the doors.

How long does it typically take to assemble the Pax wardrobe? To add to the previous comments: The assembly of a Pax wardrobe can be objectively divided into several phases, each requiring a variable amount of time:
- Unpacking and inventory of parts: 15–30 minutes
- Assembling the main frame, including side panels and back panel: 90–120 minutes
- Installing the interior fittings (shelves, clothes rails, accessories): 45–60 minutes
- Installing and fine-tuning the doors and door hardware:
• Hinged or folding doors: 30–45 minutes
• Sliding doors: 45–75 minutes
On average, assembling a Pax wardrobe measuring about 2 m (6 ft 7 in) high and 1.5 m (5 ft) wide takes around 4 to 6 hours, sometimes less with two people. Adjusting the doors is often the most time-consuming part.
I strongly recommend having a second person to assist and allowing enough time. Experience significantly reduces assembly time, but even skilled DIYers usually need at least 3 hours.
Tools (including screwdriver, drill with screwdriver bit, spirit level) should be prepared in advance to avoid delays.
