Hello everyone, I recently ordered a Hemnes bed from Ikea and now I’m wondering: How long does it really take to assemble the Ikea Hemnes? I’ve seen different answers in various forums – from 1 hour up to 4 hours with 2 people. It would be very helpful for me if you could share your actual experiences regarding the assembly time. I’m especially interested in how time-consuming the assembly is, including the drawers, if you have some DIY skills but are not a professional. Are there any common pitfalls that tend to make the process take longer? Thanks in advance for your input!

From your experience, are there any negative effects on quality or safety if one person does the work alone?

Quality does not directly suffer, but assembly is more complicated because you have to hold parts and screw them in at the same time. From a safety standpoint, it is not an issue as long as you work carefully.

I think it is important to critically consider what can actually make the assembly more difficult. The factory manual from Ikea is not always clear enough, which often causes confusion with Hemnes drawers. I recommend watching a video beforehand or reading the instructions thoroughly and having the appropriate tools ready.

This can significantly reduce the assembly time. Without structured preparation, I consider 4 hours or more to be realistic—especially if you have no prior experience. Therefore, the stated time should not be seen as binding for everyone.

Hey, I assembled my IKEA Hemnes bed by myself yesterday, and wow, it was actually fun! 🎉 I was alone and it took me almost 4 hours, but it’s doable. The key is not to rush and to take breaks in between.

So don’t hesitate to give it a try, even if it takes longer—the result is worth it! ✌️

I can understand well that the time required to assemble Ikea Hemnes is an issue for many. Especially when managing the entire project alone, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. From my experience, this is completely normal – everyone works at their own pace during assembly.

That sums it up perfectly. In addition, I would recommend not rushing and instead allowing enough time. I took about 3.5 hours myself and didn’t encounter any unsolvable problems. The key is good preparation and a steady hand.
