Hello everyone, I am interested in the durability of the Ikea Brimnes cabinets, specifically: How long does a typical Ikea Brimnes cabinet usually last with normal use, for example in a bedroom or living room? I mainly want to know how sturdy the construction is over several years and whether material fatigue, stability issues, or other signs of wear commonly occur that should be considered beforehand. Perhaps some of you have personal experience with the product, such as how many years the cabinet lasted for you and the exact usage conditions. An assessment regarding the quality of the components, workmanship, and assembly would also be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

I once had a Brimnes that became somewhat unstable after about 3 years and the doors started squeaking, which was a bit disappointing. However, in my opinion, the durability also depends on how carefully the assembly is done and how the cabinet is used. This also affects, emotionally, whether you remain satisfied.

The term “durability” is rather vague.I have to agree with that. Durability depends on several factors:
- Installation accuracy
- Environment (humidity, temperature)
- Load level (weight, frequency of use)
- Maintenance
In this context, choosing particle board with a laminate finish is not aimed at extreme longevity but rather cost efficiency and appearance.
Under normal residential conditions, a lifespan of 7 to 10 years can be expected, although some users report positive experiences lasting significantly longer.

I bought mine 4 years ago; it is used daily in the bedroom. Fits with my experience. The workmanship is Ikea standard—not for professionals, but solid.

Those who take their time and align everything with millimeter precision experience fewer adjustments and less wear. Additionally, the furniture base profile should be level to avoid stress concentrations. With children in the household, visible signs of wear usually appear sooner.

Experience shows that with proper installation and a dry environment, 7 to 10 years is quite realistic. That would be almost 10 years if everything goes perfectly. However, the question is whether it might be better to invest in a higher-quality piece of furniture, especially knowing that IKEA furniture often needs to be replaced sooner. The aspect of sustainability also plays a role in the overall evaluation.
