Good morning everyone,
Some time ago, I purchased furniture from the IKEA Brimnes series, mainly dressers and nightstands. I noticed that while the surfaces seem quite durable, they are not particularly easy to clean when dealing with dust or occasional stains, without damaging the clear white finish.
I’m very interested in learning which cleaning methods you consider best for Brimnes furniture.
- Which cleaning agents are gentle but do not harm the lacquered surface?
- Do you prefer using household remedies or special furniture cleaners?
- How do you handle stubborn stains?
- Is there any maintenance that protects the surfaces in the long term and helps prevent scratches?
I look forward to your tips and experiences so I can keep my Brimnes furniture in good condition for as long as possible.

I usually clean my Brimnes furniture with a lightly dampened microfiber cloth. It’s important for me to immediately go over it again with a dry cloth afterward – I don’t like water spots.
I’ve noticed that too – that’s why I’m cautious with vinegar and only use it rarely and very diluted.
Also, here’s a little trick I use to reduce dust: every now and then, I put some scented oil on the furniture – it doesn’t keep the dust away, but why not add a bit of fresh fragrance to the rooms?

Vinegar can cause slight dulling of the surface if used too often or at high concentrations.

However, avoid oil-based polishes, which often become sticky on film surfaces. This is an important note. The BRIMNES surfaces have a plastic film that can develop residue from oil-based polishes and may affect the appearance over time.
Therefore, I recommend cleaning only with mild, water-based products and occasional wiping with a dry microfiber cloth. This keeps the surface smooth and clean without risk of damage.
