Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of securely fixing my Ikea Pax wardrobe to wooden floors. Specifically, I want to prevent the wardrobe from wobbling or shifting when the doors are opened, without damaging the wooden floor.
I have heard about the option of anchoring the wardrobes to the wall, but with wooden floors there can sometimes be issues due to the stability of the fastenings in the floor or possible warping.
Does anyone have experience with reliable mounting techniques or special products that work well in this situation? I would greatly appreciate any tips, including whether you use specific screws, plugs, or pads that help distribute the weight evenly and prevent scratches.
Thanks in advance!

Hello Klapo,

To add to the previous posts: When attaching a PAX unit to a wooden floor, you need to work precisely to avoid damaging the floor while still achieving good stability.

- The most important aspect is securing it to the wall with appropriate screws AND anchors in a load-bearing substrate (wood studs, masonry). For drywall, special cavity anchors are the way to go.

- The type of flooring greatly affects the choice of protective pads.

- Parquet or lacquered wood: Very sensitive; I often use plastic glides with a soft backing or special felt pads that do not scratch.

- Laminate: It’s best to use non-slip rubber pads here, which provide grip while still protecting the floor.

- Since PAX can get rather heavy, I also recommend so-called furniture bases or small wooden platforms (e.g., plywood) under the feet, placed on the floor and fitted with felt or rubber. These distribute the weight better and minimize pressure marks.

- If you want to avoid floor damage, I strongly advise against screwing directly into the floor. The resulting repair costs can be quite high.

- A final option for particularly unstable wooden floors (e.g., old floorboards) is a combination of wall fixing plus a floor-standing support using a felt-covered wooden strip placed in front of the cabinet. This prevents slipping without damaging the floor.

Feel free to get in touch with details about your flooring, and I can provide more targeted recommendations.

Hello,

here is a summary of the most important facts for securely anchoring an IKEA PAX wardrobe to wooden floors:

- Main principle: Always secure the wardrobe to the wall, not the floor. Wooden floors are not suitable as load-bearing attachment points because they are subject to movements or warping.

- Wall anchoring: Use different types of anchors/screws depending on the wall type, for example, expansion anchors for solid walls or cavity anchors for drywall. Be sure to drill into load-bearing elements (wood studs, bricks).

- Floor protection: The wardrobe stands directly on the floor without any screw holes. To prevent scratches or noise, use appropriate felt pads or rubber feet under the legs.

- Check floor type and condition:
- Laminate, parquet, and wooden planks require different types of protective pads as each surface reacts differently to pressure and friction.

- Compensate for unevenness: Use suitable shims or leveling materials so the wardrobe does not wobble.

- Weight distribution: For heavy furniture, a larger contact area is beneficial. Therefore, a thin, sturdy protective board under the wardrobe combined with pads is a good alternative.

- Direct attachment to the wooden floor is not recommended, as it can cause damage and permanent marks.

If you can provide specific information about your floor and wall, advice can be made more precise.

Are there any special conditions in your situation that should be considered?
