Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of securely fixing my Ikea Pax wardrobe to wooden floors. Specifically, I want to prevent the wardrobe from wobbling or shifting when the doors are opened, without damaging the wooden floor.
I have heard about the option of anchoring the wardrobes to the wall, but with wooden floors there can sometimes be issues due to the stability of the fastenings in the floor or possible warping.
Does anyone have experience with reliable mounting techniques or special products that work well in this situation? I would greatly appreciate any tips, including whether you use specific screws, plugs, or pads that help distribute the weight evenly and prevent scratches.
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I always secure my PAX to the wall using the included wall anchors. On wooden floors, I make sure to place rubber pads under the cabinet to prevent it from sliding or scratching. I do not screw anything to the floor itself, as that could damage it.

Hello Klapo,

Your question is very relevant since wooden floors can be more delicate and require careful fastening. I would like to address a few points that might help you solve the problem:

- First, it is highly recommended to secure the PAX wardrobe to the wall. Ikea provides special metal brackets for this purpose, which you screw into the upper back of the wardrobe. These should then be firmly anchored in the wall, ideally using appropriate wall plugs depending on the wall material.

- Regarding the wooden floor: Screwing directly into the floor is generally not a good idea, as it leaves holes that are difficult to repair and can weaken the floor.

- A practical alternative is to use non-slip felt pads or anti-slip mats under the wardrobe feet. These reduce slipping when opening the doors, protect the floor from scratches, and allow slight movement for later adjustments.

- If stability is still not sufficient, you could additionally place a specially fitted base plate made of thin plywood or similar material underneath, which can be fixed to better distribute the load and protect the wooden floor. However, the height must be adjusted to fit skirting boards or door thresholds.

- Important: Before mounting to the wall, carefully check the exact wall construction. Especially with drywall (plasterboard) walls, do not screw only into the drywall but preferably into the wooden or metal studs behind it.

Can you provide some details about your floor? For example, whether it is solid wood, laminate, or parquet? The wall type would also be useful to give more targeted fastening recommendations.

I hope these points help you further.

Hey Klapo,
I completely understand wanting to play it safe. I felt the same way with my PAX on wooden floorboards – constantly worried the wardrobe might slip or scratch the floor.

I decided to go with the tried-and-true wall mounting and placed rubber pads under the feet. It takes a bit of time and effort, but it really gives peace of mind.

Maybe you’re also uneasy about screwing into the wooden floor – I think less is more here, so it’s better to just secure it to the wall and use nonslip pads underneath.

Feel free to share how it goes for you; I believe tips like these help us all!

I would like to raise a critical point: Are felt pads alone really sufficient to hold a large, heavy PAX wardrobe? I believe the stability is often overestimated. Of course, they protect the floor, but if the cabinet is moved frequently on a wooden floor, these pads can wear out or shift over time.

Wall mounting is definitely the best option, but only if the wall is load-bearing. Above all, you should be sure that the screws go into the wall studs and not just into the drywall.

But what if the floor is uneven across several boards or planks? Are there better fixing methods than just pads? Or would it be better to install additional reinforcements in that case?

Good morning everyone,
I would like to share a brief step-by-step guide for safely securing an IKEA PAX wardrobe to wooden floors, based on experience and common recommendations:

1. Preparation:
- Check the floor type: Is it parquet, laminate, or solid wood planks? Minor unevenness should be evened out using thin furniture pads.
- Check the wall: Where are the studs or load-bearing areas suitable for fastening the mounting screws?

2. Attach the PAX to the wall using the supplied back panel screws and metal brackets:
- Determine the position and use a drill to install wall anchors.
- Insert screws into the load-bearing parts of the wall, not only into drywall or plasterboard.

3. Protect and stabilize the floor contact points:
- Stick anti-slip pads onto the feet of the wardrobe.
- Alternatively, use thicker felt gliders that better distribute the weight.

4. Additional measures:
- If the floor is especially delicate or uneven, place a sturdy plywood board as an underlay beneath the wardrobe to distribute the load more evenly.
- Ensure the wardrobe is still securely anchored to the wall to prevent tipping.

5. Check:
- Gently apply weight to the wardrobe and check for wobbling or slipping.
- Adjust if necessary.

In my opinion, the most important part is the wall mounting, as floor protection alone is often not enough to prevent tipping or slipping.

If you provide details about your flooring and wall, I can tailor my advice more specifically to your situation.
