Hello everyone, I recently purchased the Ikea Brimnes chest of drawers set and am now wondering how to best protect the surface from scratches, stains, and general wear and tear. Although the surface seems sturdy, white-coated furniture often requires extra care since small damages can become very noticeable. I am mainly interested in whether there are specific protective treatments or maintenance methods that have proven effective for furniture with foil-coated MDF surfaces like the Brimnes series. What are your thoughts on using covers, protective films, or even waxes and oils in terms of the durability of this particular surface? I would appreciate well-informed tips, including product recommendations that have shown good results without causing any damage.

Just a quick note: Never use aggressive cleaners or abrasives. For everyday cleaning, warm water and a mild vinegar-water solution are sufficient. Avoid heat and standing moisture.

A thin, transparent protective film provides good protection against minor scratches.

So, I think the best protection for Brimnes is a combination of common sense and practical tricks:

- Always use coasters under cups, glasses, and vases. Even if you think nothing will happen, the finish is quite delicate!
- Felt pads on all edges to avoid horrible scratches when moving the furniture.
- Use pH-neutral cleaners for cleaning, as acids and bases can damage the surface film.
- And if you’re really cautious, there are films that can be applied almost invisibly, like a protective shield.

I’m a big fan of surface films—they’re hardly noticeable and prevent many unpleasant surprises. This way, the Brimnes surface stays beautiful for a long time. 🙂
