Hello everyone, I have a question about stabilizing my IKEA Malm bed because the floor in my bedroom is not completely even. There are slight unevennesses that cause the bed to wobble in some spots under load and not stand completely firm. I want to avoid any long-term damage to the frame or noise from this. Does anyone know effective methods or products to stabilize the Malm bed without having to lift or modify it? I am especially interested in tips on how to improve the contact with the floor, possibly using suitable materials or small adjustments. Thanks in advance for your help!

This is a common issue, especially with wooden floors or older laminate flooring that can warp slightly. A well-established and straightforward solution is to use furniture glides made of felt or plastic, possibly with an adjustable leveling foot.

If the floor is quite uneven, you can also use special furniture feet with threaded rods that allow for precise height adjustment down to the millimeter (inch). These are available as replacement parts that can be simply screwed onto the existing bed legs.

Alternatively, small, cut-to-size plastic wedges placed under the legs can help level the bed. Make sure the material is resistant to abrasion and slip-resistant to keep the bed stable in the long term.

If you prefer not to lift the bed, you can also try placing thin rubber pads or anti-slip mats under the legs. This significantly improves contact with the floor and prevents wobbling.

If you want, I can share a few links to suitable products here. Don’t worry, this problem is completely solvable, and you don’t need to replace the floor or the bed frame right away.

That’s brilliant! 🙂 I had a similar issue with my Malm bed and tried the tip of using height-adjustable furniture feet. Since then, the bed has been rock solid and no more squeaking!

A small tip from me: Sometimes it’s worth doing a quick check with a spirit level before adjusting the feet. That way, you can precisely see where there are uneven spots and level them out accordingly.

Also, there are special anti-slip mats that I placed under the felt gliders for extra grip – very simple and yet highly effective! Good luck trying it out, it will work! 🙂

All I can say is: nothing is more annoying than a bed that makes noise during sleep – that would definitely bring action to the bedroom! 😉

Jokes aside, a quick addition to the great tips already given: if your floor is very uneven, placing a thin rug under the bed might help to even out small irregularities and also provide some cushioning. The soft base can reduce creaking.

It’s important that the legs don’t stand outside the rug, otherwise the bed will be uneven or wobble again. So just experiment a bit with mats or felt pads combined.

Fingers crossed your bed will soon stand so stable that you won’t have any more nighttime jumping concerts! 😉
