ᐅ How can I securely fasten Ikea Pax wardrobes to hardwood floors?

BenfoHello everyone,
I recently purchased several Ikea Pax wardrobes and want to secure them safely on a parquet floor. My concern is that the wardrobes might slide or even tip over if accidentally bumped or due to their weight. Since the floor is delicate, I want to avoid using any fasteners that could scratch or damage it.
What options are there for fixing Ikea Pax wardrobes to parquet floors without harming the floor? Are there specific protective or fastening materials that can reliably prevent the wardrobe from sliding, even under heavier loads?
I would also appreciate any recommendations on the best approach (e.g., preparing the surface, tools needed, step-by-step procedure).
Thank you in advance for your tips and advice!

For securely fixing Ikea Pax wardrobes on parquet flooring without causing damage, I recommend the following points:
- Use non-slip felt or rubber pads under the wardrobe feet. These effectively prevent scratches and reduce slipping.
- Additionally, use adjustable wall mounts that Ikea offers for Pax wardrobes. The wardrobes must be anchored to the wall to prevent tipping.
- For securing to the wall, use anchors and screws suitable for concrete or drywall walls, depending on the wall type.
- If the parquet floor is very smooth, you can also place anti-slip mats or films under the wardrobe. These are barely noticeable but provide good grip.
Steps to follow:
1. Stand the wardrobe upright and roughly position it.
2. Place non-slip protection under the feet.
3. Attach the wall mount (hold the wardrobe at the marking against the wall, then drill holes).
4. Insert anchors and screws, fix the wardrobe.
This ensures that the parquet floor is not directly damaged and that the wardrobe remains securely in place permanently.

Use non-slip felt or rubber pads under the cabinet feet. These prevent scratches and effectively reduce slipping. This is an important point that I would like to add to. There are special furniture gliders with rubber coatings that can simply be stuck onto the feet. They not only protect against scratches but also work very well to prevent slipping, especially on smooth hardwood floors.
Additionally, when fixing to the wall, it is essential to check the stability of the wall—drywall requires specific heavy-duty anchors; otherwise, nothing will hold.
If drilling is not possible or desired, there are tension mounts (assembly feet or clamping systems) that clamp the cabinet between the floor and the wall. These only work if the floor is parallel to the ceiling and the cabinet fits exactly.
My tip for protecting hardwood floors:
- Thoroughly clean the surface before installation
- Use small plastic or felt pads
- Prefer assembly aids rather than fastening screws directly to the floor
This way, the cabinet is secured safely, and the floor covering stays protected.

If you don’t want or are unable to drill, there are also tension fasteners (mounting feet or clamping systems) that hold the cabinet securely between the floor and the wall.Thank you for the tip. Could you please explain in more detail how these tension fasteners work and whether they are truly stable under load? Since I live in a rental apartment, I prefer to avoid drilling into the walls as much as possible.
I have also read that some cabinets can be leveled on uneven floors using small wooden or plastic wedges. Is this an issue with parquet flooring? Could these wedges cause scratches or permanent damage to the floor due to pressure marks?
I would appreciate hearing about any experiences with alternative fastenings that don’t require drilling.

Could you explain in more detail how these tension mounts work and whether they are truly load-stable?Tension mounts for furniture generally work like a wedge mechanism or clamp that is fitted between the floor and ceiling or floor and wall. They apply constant pressure, which keeps the cabinet stable without slipping.
However, they usually require straight and evenly high rooms. There can be issues on slightly uneven parquet floors if the floor is not completely level or if the ceiling has slight slopes.
Regarding stability: The load such a mount can bear is limited. They are suitable for light shelves and smaller cabinets, but for heavy or heavily loaded cabinets, it is better to use a wall mount—even if drilling is not desirable.
About your point on wedges: These should preferably be made of soft materials like plastic or felt. Wooden wedges can leave pressure marks on parquet floors, especially if they bear strong weight at a small contact point. Wedges with rubber coating or reinforced felt pads are better as they distribute the load and protect against scratches.
In general, for an expensive parquet floor, I recommend using a combination of non-slip pads and wall mounting whenever possible.
