Hello everyone, I am currently planning to secure an IKEA Malm bed because I have small children at home and am concerned about the furniture tipping over. My question is: How can I safely secure Malm furniture, especially the bed, to reliably prevent tipping? Are there proven methods that are not only stable but also minimize the impact on the appearance? I understand that there are special wall anchors, but I am looking for effective yet simple solutions, preferably with tips on installation. Thanks in advance for your experience!

Make sure to pay close attention to the type of wall you are attaching to. Drywall requires special anchors; otherwise, nothing will hold properly. Concrete walls are much easier to secure. If you take this lightly, it won’t be very effective.

The original wall anchors from IKEA are the most important.

Exactly, although I would add that anchoring into a load-bearing wall is essential. For less stable walls, special heavy-duty anchors or additional components may be necessary to ensure safety.

Place heavy items in the lower drawers.

This is a frequently underestimated tip: it significantly lowers the center of gravity, which makes tipping over more difficult and greatly contributes to stability.

Complementing the topic 'How do I secure Malm furniture?': I recommend combining wall anchors with a non-slip mat glued under the furniture legs. The mat prevents sliding, and the wall anchors prevent tipping. Additionally, it is important to ensure that the installation tools and screws are suitable for the wall material.

I can fully understand that the topic of 'How to secure Malm furniture safely?' is especially important when you have children. There is nothing worse than the fear of a piece of furniture tipping over. What helped me was not only relying on wall anchoring but also regularly checking that all screws are still tight. Having a certain routine provides great reassurance.

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, our apartment has rather thin walls, so I will take a closer look at these heavy-duty anchors.

Combination of wall fixing and anti-slip mat

The tip about the anti-slip mat also sounds sensible. I will combine both to ensure maximum safety. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, they really help me move forward!
