Hello everyone,

I recently bought an Ikea BESTÅ sideboard and now I’m facing the problem that it slides quite easily on my smooth laminate floor. Since I placed it directly against the wall, a secure hold is important, especially regarding stability and safety for children or pets.

My question is: What is the best way to secure an Ikea BESTÅ piece of furniture against slipping on smooth floors? I’m looking for practical, effective solutions that don’t require major modifications and are as residue-free as possible. Does anyone know of suitable aids or tricks that work well with the material and construction of BESTÅ?

I appreciate any recommendations, also based on personal experience with various methods such as non-slip pads, wall fastenings, or other solutions.

The easiest options are anti-slip mats or felt pads with rubber backing. These can be placed under the feet.

Alternatively, IKEA also offers special wall mounts for BESTÅ that secure it permanently.

Hello Urielmar,

I understand how frustrating it can be when a piece of furniture easily slides on a smooth floor. Especially with IKEA BESTÅ, which is often relatively lightweight and modular, it’s recommended to use a combination of measures:

- Non-slip pads or specialized furniture stoppers under the feet help increase friction and prevent easy sliding.
- The original wall mounts from IKEA are highly recommended, as they not only stop sliding but also provide additional stability, particularly in homes with children.
- You can also cut and apply self-adhesive rubber strips or thin foam rubber pads underneath.

It is important that the method used leaves no residue, in case the furniture needs to be moved later. For a permanent solution, securing the furniture to the wall is best.

If the surface is especially smooth, I would recommend combining rubberized pads with wall mounting.

I hope these tips help you!

Regarding the issue of BESTÅ sliding on smooth floors, there are essentially three practical approaches:

- Use of non-slip mats or pads: Special anti-slip furniture pads made of rubber or silicone increase friction between the furniture and the floor. They are easy to apply and usually removable without residue.
- Wall mounting: IKEA provides brackets and anchors for securing BESTÅ furniture, which fix the unit permanently. This is especially recommended for households with small children.
- Adjustment of the feet: Replacing or supplementing the original feet with versions that have non-slip undersides improves stability.

From a technical perspective, wall mounting is the most reliable method, as it does not rely solely on friction and therefore ensures 100% stability even on smooth surfaces. If drilling is to be avoided, high-quality, thick anti-slip pads are recommended, keeping in mind their wear over time.

For optimal results, attention should be paid to material compatibility to avoid potential damage to the floor (such as from adhesives).

In summary, a combination of non-slip pads and secure wall mounting is the best solution.

Great tip! I also simply secured my BESTÅ with the original wall brackets – super stable and finally no more annoying slipping, especially with my little whirlwind at home!

If that’s not an option for you, I recommend using thick foam or felt glides with a rubber base underneath; that provides a lot of grip! Especially if you vacuum a lot and the furniture keeps moving, this is a practical solution.

I’ve also tried placing small non-slip rugs underneath. It doesn’t always look great, but it works quite well.

Keep at it, you’ll definitely solve the problem!

Exactly, if you really want safety, choose wall mounting. Everything else is only conditionally secure.
