Good morning everyone, I have a specific question about replacing damaged parts on furniture from IKEA’s Malm series. Specifically, I’m wondering how to proceed if, for example, a drawer or a side panel is damaged due to wear or an accident. Is it possible to easily replace individual parts yourself, or do you need special tools or expertise? I’m also interested in whether IKEA offers certain replacement parts directly and how long the delivery times typically are. Has anyone had experience with this or can share helpful tips for a smooth repair process? Thanks in advance!
Hi Tarosan, repairing is definitely more enjoyable than buying new! When I worked on my Malm dressers, I once replaced a drawer runner rail myself. A tip from me: arrange all screws sorted out beforehand—that really helps later on. And always follow the assembly instructions step by step, don’t rush anything. If something gets stuck, feel free to use a bit of penetrating oil; it will help everything run smoothly again. Good luck and stay relaxed! :-)

Order replacement parts directly from IKEA. Find the part number in the assembly instructions or on the furniture piece. If you no longer have the instructions, you can often download detailed PDF manuals from the IKEA website.
Thanks for all your helpful tips! A quick question: Are there specific parts in the Malm series that need to be replaced more often? I was told that especially the rollers or drawer slides tend to wear out – is that true? And how about assembly? Do you often have to disassemble entire modules, or can you usually just remove the faulty parts?

Are there specific parts in the Malm series that need to be replaced more frequently?Yes, the drawer slides and rollers are indeed wear parts. Usually, you can remove these individually without disassembling the entire piece of furniture. It is important to carefully note the order when taking them out, so everything fits correctly during reassembly. The Malm series is quite modular – an advantage for repairs.

How does the assembly work? Do you often have to dismantle entire modules, or can you just remove the defective parts?Hey, you can usually just remove the broken part without taking apart the whole unit. In my dresser, only the drawer slide was broken – pulled it out, put in a new one, and it fit perfectly! :-) If you follow the instructions carefully, it works without any problems. You can easily replace the drawers and rollers, and then everything works smoothly again!
