Hello everyone, I have a concern regarding my damaged IKEA Metod worktops. Due to an unfortunate incident, a deep scratch has formed in one spot, which not only affects the appearance but also limits the usability. It is a laminated worktop with a decorative foil. My question is: What methods are available to repair such damage on IKEA Metod worktops quickly and reliably? I am particularly interested in both easy DIY solutions and product recommendations for fillers or repair materials that provide long-lasting results and restore the original finish as closely as possible. I look forward to your experiences, tips, and advice so that I don’t have to replace the entire worktop.

What specific filler would you recommend? It’s for a countertop with a laminated surface. Does the filler need to be waterproof?

For countertops with laminated surfaces, epoxy resin fillers are recommended because they are waterproof and very durable. Compared to conventional wood fillers, they have the advantage of being easy to sand and do not swell. Branded products from hardware stores, specifically labeled as laminate repair or wood/plastic filler, usually meet these requirements.

For touch-up pens, I recommend color sets designed specifically for laminate or wood repair, such as those found in the furniture repair category. These typically offer various sheens, from matte to high gloss, allowing you to match the surface finish accurately.

If you need a quick fix and the damage isn’t too deep, try repair wax. You briefly melt the wax, apply it, and smooth it out; then it hardens and conceals the damage well. It might not last forever, but it’s fast and easy to do.
