Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my Ikea Platsa wardrobe: some of the screws that connect the individual modules have broken. The screws are no longer stable, and as a result, the wardrobe feels a bit wobbly.
My question is: what is the best way to repair or replace these broken Ikea Platsa screws? Is there a way to fix the screws myself, or should they be completely replaced?
If replacement is necessary, can someone tell me exactly which types of screws are used and whether replacement screws are easy to find in stores or at Ikea?
I would appreciate any advice, as I would like to continue using the furniture piece and don’t want to have to buy a new one right away.

The best way to repair broken screws in Ikea Platsa furniture is actually to replace the screws completely, as patching metal parts that bear loads does not provide long-term stability.
The Platsa series mainly uses special cam screws and threaded inserts in the wooden panels. You should first identify the exact type of screw you need (usually 5 mm diameter, about 35–50 mm (1.4–2 inches) long, depending on the connection).
Ikea offers replacement parts, often through customer service or directly in-store. Alternatively, compatible furniture connectors from third-party suppliers are available at hardware stores; be sure to check the dimensions and thread type carefully.
If the threaded inserts in the panels are damaged, these may also need to be repaired or replaced—for example, with suitable knock-in nuts.
My tip:
- Remove screws completely
- Check threaded inserts for integrity
- Obtain matching replacement screws
- Install new screws carefully with the appropriate torque to avoid breakage again.

I had the same issue with my Platsa and simply ordered the matching screws from Ikea. Luckily, they arrived quickly and were easy to install. If you do this, it’s best to screw them in carefully, not too tight – otherwise, you might make the problem worse!
And if the hole in the panel is already a bit worn out, you can help by using a small wooden wedge or wood glue before inserting the new screw – this way, everything fits tightly and securely.

Fixing screws yourself sounds interesting, but it rarely holds up I agree, but I would add that simply replacing the screws is not always the best solution if the problem lies with the threaded inserts in the panels.
Often, you will see that the screw is new, but it still does not provide sufficient stability because the wood threads have worn out.
In such cases, it is recommended to use either a threaded insert or repair with wood filler or special glue-in sleeves. This requires more effort but ensures long-lasting load capacity.
Also, you should not just buy any screw. The original Ikea Platsa screws are designed to withstand specific bending and tensile forces. Alternative screws from hardware stores might fit but do not necessarily offer the same load-bearing capacity.
In the end, it is important to identify the exact source of the problem – only replace screws if the fastening is truly intact.
