Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod countertop that unfortunately got quite scratched due to a moment of carelessness. It has a laminate surface, and the scratches are quite visible in some areas, which affects the overall appearance significantly. My question is: What is the best and most lasting way to repair a scratched IKEA Metod countertop without having to replace the entire surface? Are there any specific products or methods that have proven effective, especially for laminate? I would appreciate any detailed instructions and tips!

Should I completely remove the countertop before the repair, or is it possible to repair it directly on the installed countertop?Hello Amjad, generally, it is sufficient to repair the countertop on site while it remains installed. A clean and well-lit workspace is important. If you work carefully and patiently, the risk of causing damage by removing the countertop is higher. So it’s better to work on the countertop in place.
Important: clear the work area and work gently to avoid creating additional scratches.
Addition to Tevin’s explanation:
If you are working directly on the installation panel, make sure the surrounding area is dust-free to prevent dirt from entering the repaired spot. After patching, use a microfiber cloth for gentle polishing.
Also helpful: Before applying the repair, lightly roughen the scratch edge with fine sandpaper (at least grit 600) to improve wax adhesion.

A quick update from me: I completed the repair attempt today. First, I used a very fine sanding pad to gently roughen the scratches—it worked well without damaging the laminate layer. Then, I carefully applied the wax with a spatula. After it dried, I polished the area as recommended.
The result is absolutely satisfactory for everyday use; the scratches are much less noticeable. Once again, a big thank you for all the tips and great support here!
