Hello everyone, I recently purchased a Pax corner wardrobe from Ikea and now face the challenge of properly installing the clothes rails inside. Specifically, I am looking for advice on how to mount the rails securely and so they can support weight without bending or causing the fixings to tear out. I am also interested in whether there are special mounting options or adapters that are particularly useful for corner areas. I want to avoid issues later on with sagging rails or damaged wardrobe panels. Could someone provide a step-by-step guide or important tips for installation in corner sections, especially considering the wardrobe materials and load capacity? Thank you in advance!

Hello rebepa, the best way to mount clothes rails in the Pax corner wardrobe is by using the original brackets from Ikea, which are specially designed for corner wardrobes. It is important to install the rails so that they are supported from both sides – not only on the wall but also on the back panel and the side panel. You should distribute the weight evenly. For longer rails, an additional damper or center support can be helpful.

This is a very important point. The stability of the clothing rods in a Pax corner wardrobe largely depends on the choice of fixing method and the distribution of the load. Here is a detailed guide:

- Use the original Pax brackets, as they are perfectly matched to the cabinet dimensions and generally provide the appropriate load capacity.
- In corner wardrobes, the special corner connecting rod often ensures that the load is distributed across two sides. It is recommended to install it in the supplied corresponding drill holes.
- The clothing rod should not span more than 90–120 cm (35–47 inches) without support brackets, as heavy clothing can cause bending.
- If you hang heavy items such as coats, I recommend installing a center support bracket or support arm that is screwed underneath the rod.
- Fixings should always be positioned in the pre-drilled holes, which are often reinforced with metal eyelets to prevent pull-out damage.

I would be interested to know what type of clothing you mostly plan to hang, as this does affect the load capacity and rod length.

I think that’s an important question too! Especially if you’re unsure about the strength of the rod, it helps to look at the issue from the perspective of how it will be used. For example, I once overloaded a rod in my corner closet by hanging heavy winter coats on it. It actually sagged a little. But I was able to fix the problem by adding a center support bracket.

What I’m trying to say is: don’t hesitate to ask questions here and share your own experiences. Installation can often be made more stable with a small trick or additional hardware.

Hey rebepa, it’s really important to securely fasten the rod and not just slide it in! 😊 A little tip from me: when using the supplied brackets, always make sure all screws are tightened properly and, if possible, add small wall plugs for extra stability. This way, the closet rod will hold firmly – even if the corner is a bit tricky.

Also, don’t forget to cut the rod to the correct length, precisely fitting the wardrobe, so it doesn’t bend. Good luck, you can do it!

Thanks for the suggestion, pauPierce! Mainly, I want to hang shirts, blouses, and some jackets. The weights aren’t very heavy, but the wardrobe should remain stable in the long term – I have planned two rods, one about 100 cm (40 inches) and one for the corner, which I estimate to be around 60 cm (24 inches). I have considered using a center support, but I’m unsure if installing it in the corner setup would be more complicated.

Can you share any tips on how to securely mount the clothes rod in the corner with professional-level stability without needing multiple additional supports? Are there any particularly robust brackets or adapters available for Pax corner wardrobes?
