Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of installing IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets on a floor that is noticeably uneven. My specific question is: How can I assemble and level the Metod cabinets so that they stand perfectly despite the uneven floor, with no drawers sticking or doors misaligning? Are there any special techniques or tools you would recommend to compensate for floor irregularities without compromising the stability and functionality of the cabinets? I would greatly appreciate tips on the proper preparation and adjustment of the cabinets, as well as any possible modifications to the feet or mounting.

Hello FISAR, your question is very precise and important when installing kitchen units on uneven floors. First of all: The Metod modules have height-adjustable feet, which you should use to compensate for minor unevenness. It is important to use a spirit level to check exactly how much the floor is sloped and at which points you need to make adjustments. For larger unevenness, I recommend installing a thin substructure or leveling wedges between the cabinet base and the floor. These can be made from wood or special plastic pads, which you can either make yourself or buy. This ensures that the cabinet stands horizontally and the doors will not get stuck later. Also, you should immediately connect the cabinets together, as the interlocking increases stability and prevents wobbling. When you install drawers later, test whether they open smoothly – if not, readjust the feet. One tip at the end: Do not install all the cabinets individually, but rather as one block, which makes precise alignment easier. If you want, I can gladly provide you with a step-by-step guide.

Adjust the feet on the Metod cabinets completely, using a spirit level. For significant unevenness, place wooden wedges or shims under the feet. Connect the cabinets so they stabilize each other.

In short: fully extend the feet, level out any holes or edges with wooden strips, then check with a spirit level. No mistake: always screw cabinets together; this provides stability.

Exactly, I’d like to add that besides the height-adjustable feet, good planning is essential. It can be helpful to measure the floor multiple times beforehand using a digital laser level or a precise spirit level to identify the highest and lowest points. This way, you can directly note the necessary adjustment values. Furthermore, for long-term use, it is important that the cabinets are installed on a sturdy baseboard fixed firmly to the floor while being fine-tuned with the adjustable feet. In some cases, a floating floor covering can cause additional movement, which should also be taken into account.

I think the whole discussion about "perfectly aligned" Metod cabinets on uneven floors is a bit overblown. Of course, using a spirit level makes sense. But in the end, these are simple cabinets, not high-end custom-made furniture. You won’t achieve true "perfection" without resorting to extensive craftsmanship or correcting the floor. If I want to save money and effort, I would simply accept the clearance in the doors and drawers. Trying to align everything precisely involves too much guesswork. Instead, here’s a tip to improve convenience: regularly oil the doors and drawers, so they stick less even if the floor is slightly uneven.
