ᐅ How can I optimize the construction of IKEA Metod corner units?

LilalaHello everyone,
I am currently planning my kitchen layout and have chosen the IKEA Metod corner solutions. However, I am finding it a bit challenging to optimize the setup in the corner to maximize storage space while keeping all cabinets easily accessible.
I am especially interested in how to combine and arrange different corner cabinets (such as rotating carousels, pull-out systems, LeMans corner solutions) in a way that makes the best use of the countertop area and avoids dead corners.
Has anyone had experience with this and can share tips on how to design the IKEA Metod corner solutions in the kitchen most effectively? Any advice on installation or small adjustment tricks would also be greatly appreciated.

Hey Lilala,
first of all, it’s great that you’re trying out the Metod corner solutions! It’s really a smart system that provides a lot of storage space when done right. My tip: use the carousel unit for really narrow corners and for items you don’t need frequently, as access can sometimes be a bit tricky. For everyday use, I prefer pull-out systems because you can see everything at once and virtually nothing gets lost.
What I also like a lot: use internal pull-outs or small dividers in the corners – this massively optimizes the use of space.
And one small hack: if the doors don’t fully open because of the corner, a handle mounted in a way that leaves more clearance often helps.
Good luck, and don’t be afraid of the assembly – it was less difficult for me than expected!

Hello Lilala,
To optimize the installation of IKEA Metod corner solutions, it’s best to first check how much space is available in the corner and which workflows are most important.
For example, LeMans corner cabinets are excellent for deep corners because their rotating shelves make the storage space very usable. However, there is often an area behind the unit that remains hard to access.
The revolving carousel saves space but has the drawback of less visibility and sometimes makes items harder to reach.
Pull-out systems, on the other hand, allow you to fully extend the drawers, which makes access easier.
When it comes to assembly, precise measurements are essential—especially regarding the installed countertop and the clearance to the wall. I would also pay close attention to the quality of the shelves and hinges in the door systems.
If you like, I can also find some assembly and planning guides for you.

A carousel shelf saves space but has the drawback of reduced visibilityI’d like to pick up on that point: despite this minor disadvantage, I find the carousel shelf really enjoyable because it offers an almost magical rotating motion and allows easy access to every corner of the cabinet! 😄
What really impressed me is how much you can get out of it with optimal planning! My advice: prioritize strict criteria such as countertop workspace, frequency of access, and storage needs beforehand.
If you measure the space carefully, you can experiment very well with modular combinations.
Don’t be discouraged if the installation looks tricky at first—the wow factor afterward is definitely worth it! 👍
For optimizing IKEA Metod corner solutions, I recommend the following:
- Pull-out systems are generally more functional than rotating carousels because they provide better access to the entire cabinet contents.
- LeMans pull-out cabinets are ideal for deep corners and heavy items, as they feature secure mechanisms with multiple shelves.
- During installation, the cabinet height should be precisely maintained to ensure a perfect fit for the countertop installation.
- Keep the distance to the wall in mind, as doors require clearance to open, especially corner cabinets with special handles.
- Plan the work surface carefully before making a decision, since corners are often considered inefficient workspace; solutions with overhanging countertops can help here.
A clear plan before purchasing saves effort and improves ergonomics.
