I have several IKEA Metod base cabinets in my kitchen and am looking for ways to make the storage space inside them more efficient, especially by using internal organizers. My question is how to best utilize the existing depth and height of these base cabinets to create as much order as possible while making frequently used items easily accessible. Which types of internal organizers are particularly recommended, and how can they be combined to store both small kitchen utensils and larger storage containers effectively? Are there specific systems or tips that allow for versatile use of the storage space without having to constantly unload everything?

To optimize storage space in IKEA Metod base cabinets, it is best to first customize the interior fittings according to the cabinet’s internal dimensions. Adjustable shelves combined with pull-out drawer inserts are recommended. Particularly effective are combinations of wire baskets and full-extension slides, which make access easier. Interior organizers for cutlery and small utensils can also be selected modularly and adapted to individual needs. Additionally, there are specialized drawer inserts equipped with dividers that can be positioned flexibly. It is important that these elements are securely installed to ensure load capacity and durability.

In addition to Kieran’s suggestion, I would recommend first taking an inventory of the existing kitchen appliances and accessories. This is the only way to effectively look for suitable interior organizers. Narrow base cabinets usually work well with pull-out baskets or rolling containers that extend into the cabinet’s depth. In wider cabinets, combining fixed dividers and drawer inserts is best to accommodate both small spices and larger pots. Keep in mind that some interior organizers are height-adjustable, which increases flexibility. Another tip is to group similar items together—for example, all baking tools in one area. This reduces search time and makes usage more practical.

I am happy to share my experience with interior organizers for IKEA Metod base cabinets. A structured approach is very helpful:
- First, measure the interior space precisely: height, width, and depth.
- Next, determine usage priorities: Which items need to be quickly accessible every day? Which can be stored deeper or further back?
- For smaller items like cutlery or kitchen tools, I recommend flexible inserts made of plastic or metal that can be placed in drawers.
- For pots and pans, pull-outs with telescopic slides are very practical, as they provide 100% accessibility.
- A common mistake is using only shelves without pull-outs. Shelves offer little overview, while pull-outs greatly improve handling.
- You can also better utilize vertical space by using tiered inserts—such as additional drawers inside the cabinet.
In short: choose interior organizers that are flexible and modular, while being sturdy and easy to remove. This optimizes functionality.

Thank you for this tip, it does sound very useful. Are there specific IKEA products or compatible manufacturers you would recommend? Also, I’m interested in how to make the best use of the corners in these base cabinets, as it feels like a lot of space is wasted there.

IKEA’s own drawer systems, such as the VARIERA or KOMPLEMENT series, are specifically designed to fit METOD cabinets and often offer good value for money. For corner units, you can install rotating carousels or Magic Corners. These systems maximize storage space that is otherwise hard to access. Especially for corner cabinets, I recommend a two-tier carousel. This allows you to use the entire interior space while maintaining easy access. Alternatively, pull-out corner drawers also work well, but they tend to be more expensive and are not available from IKEA.
