Good morning everyone, I am currently facing a somewhat tricky challenge with remodeling my kitchen using IKEA Metod cabinets: How do you install these kitchen cabinets precisely and fittingly on sloped ceilings? My cabinets are going to be installed along a sloped ceiling that has varying angles and heights. I want to make sure the cabinets hang securely, avoid unsightly gaps caused by the slope, and that the doors close flush. Does anyone have experience with accurately fitting Metod cabinets to slanted walls? How do you measure the angles, what adjustments do you make to the back panel or sides, and which installation methods have proven effective to ensure a clean appearance and safe attachment? Any detailed tips or background on tricks or tools would be very helpful!

Buy a good jigsaw that allows you to cut the side panels of the cabinets precisely.

That’s true, but it’s important not to overstretch the frame: the stability of the cabinets must not be compromised by cutting the side panels too much. Therefore, it’s worth making a sketch with measurements before cutting and possibly adding some reinforcements inside.

Some people quickly get annoyed by open gaps, but small filler strips can visually conceal them very well

Exactly, and it’s also important that the filler strips are cut precisely to match the angle of the slope so they fit snugly. An angle grinder or a miter saw with adjustable angle settings are great tools for this.

I’m curious how you handle height adjustments with varying inclines within a slope. Are the cabinets installed at different heights or overlapped?

Wow, there are really some great tips here! I want to share my experience with a somewhat unusual roof slope: I installed the cabinets so that the top edge always follows the lowest point of the slope – this way, there won’t be any problems with the doors later on.

Taking measurements was a bit tedious because I measured the slope at multiple points and had to adjust repeatedly, but using a laser measuring device made it very accurate. It was important for me to work step by step and especially to hang the doors only at the very end.

Don’t get discouraged; it’s definitely worth it! The kitchen looks great now, even though the slope was tricky. Just keep at it.

You can also complement the Metod cabinets for sloped ceilings with custom-made trim that is cut to fit precisely. I also recommend assembling the cabinets on a flat surface before installation to adjust the doors and compartments. During installation, regularly check with a spirit level and a protractor.

- Measure slopes multiple times
- Adjust cabinets to the lowest level
- Cut and attach filler pieces
- Hang doors only afterwards

This worked smoothly for me.
