Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets in a room with a sloped ceiling and wanted to ask how to best approach the installation on such angled walls.

What special measures or adjustments are necessary when mounting Metod cabinets on a sloped ceiling? Are there proven methods to fit the cabinets securely and attractively into the angled walls without requiring major alterations?

I am especially interested in how to securely fasten the cabinets, which mounting materials are recommended, and if there are any important considerations when selecting or cutting the cabinets. I look forward to your tips and experiences!

Great question, keoreid61! 😃

In a similar situation, I installed an additional wooden frame structure behind the drywall. I then mounted the cabinets directly to this frame using strong brackets and long screws. This way, you can safely transfer the load to the ceiling joists or wall studs.

IKEA mounting kits are generally designed for solid walls and are often insufficient for sloped ceilings. But don’t worry! With the right screws and custom-made hangers, it works perfectly. Just don’t rely solely on the mounting kit! You can do it!

For mounting on drywall, it is recommended to install an additional wooden batten behind the drywall to screw the cabinets onto.

Original IKEA assembly kits are rarely sufficient; supplementing with heavy-duty anchors and longer screws is advisable.

Filler strips can be cut from MDF to size and installed behind the cabinets.

How did you specifically solve the wall mounting when there was no load-bearing beam on the sloped ceiling, only drywall or battens?

If there are no load-bearing beams directly at the slope, the solution is usually a built-out support frame attached to the wall. Battens alone are not sufficient.

This provides a stable base for mounting the Metod cabinets.
