Hello everyone, I have a Malm bed from Ikea, and for some time now, annoying squeaking noises occur when moving on it. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to identify a specific cause because the squeaking can be heard in different areas – from the slatted bed bases to the bed frame. My question is: How can I effectively eliminate these squeaking noises on the Malm bed? Are there any proven methods or special maintenance techniques that can help? I have considered tightening the screws or lubricating the contact points, but what approach is truly effective without damaging the furniture? Thanks in advance for your helpful tips!

Taking it apart is only necessary if you need to reach hard-to-access areas.

Exactly, and that’s often not necessary at all! Sometimes it’s enough to just move the parts slightly to reach the squeaky spot. 🙂

Besides silicone spray, you can also try candle wax, which often works really well on wooden furniture – it almost feels like a little “magic” against annoying squeaks 😉

I really appreciate that you’re sharing such helpful tips here! I had issues with my Malm bed myself and underestimated the importance of the screws. Tightening them improved the situation, but the squeaking returned. I then glued felt pads underneath the contact points of the slatted frame – since then, no noise! Sometimes it just takes these small saviors. I hope you also find a solution for your problem, Fritz_meo.

Thanks for the tip, Elias! Where can I get such felt pads, and do you have any recommendations on the best way to attach them so they don’t slip? Otherwise, I’m worried they might come off eventually and the squeaking will return.

You can get the felt pads at any hardware store or online. It is important that they are self-adhesive. Make sure to clean the surfaces thoroughly beforehand so the adhesive sticks properly. This way, they will last quite a long time.

Exactly! Here’s a little trick I use: I lightly sanded the spots beforehand – this helps the adhesive stick even better! It almost completely silenced my bed! So brilliant! :-)

Wow, the tension is gone and peace returns to the bed – that’s brilliant! Often, it’s the small things like felt pads that make a big difference. I also used some light mounting tape to secure the parts better. That way, nothing shifts anymore! Good luck to everyone combating squeaks! :-)
