Good morning everyone, some time ago I purchased several IKEA Platsa furniture units and am now looking for a suitable cleaning method that not only cleans the surfaces thoroughly but also provides long-term protection. The furniture is made from a combination of engineered wood and coated surfaces. My question is: How do I clean IKEA PLATSA furniture properly and gently to avoid the surfaces becoming dull or damaged? Are there any special cleaning products or home remedies that are particularly suitable, and which cleaning practices should I avoid to prevent scratches or peeling? I look forward to your experiences and tips.

It is better to use pH-neutral cleaning agents to protect the surface of PLATSA in the long term. That makes sense to me. I just thought vinegar, as a home remedy, might be a gentle alternative. Would it also be possible to use simple microfiber cloths with lukewarm water? And generally, regarding damp cloths: How wet can they be without causing the material underneath to swell or get damaged? That is exactly what I want to avoid.
In summary, the following can be recommended:
- Use mild, pH-neutral cleaners
- Avoid aggressive or acidic products (use vinegar very sparingly)
- Clean with slightly damp, well-wrung microfiber cloths
- Apply gentle pressure, do not scrub
- Always wipe dry immediately to prevent moisture damage
This method has proven very effective for me.
