Hello everyone, I want to build my home office cabinet using the Ikea Besta system and integrate concealed cable connections. Specifically, I’m looking for an elegant solution to route power and network cables invisibly, without compromising the appearance or functionality. The modules should serve as storage for tech equipment and office supplies, but above all, cables need to be routed cleanly and safely. Does anyone have experience with this kind of modification, such as drilling, cable ducts, or special outlet solutions that can be well hidden within the Besta system? Thanks for any tips and recommendations!
It is important to plan cable trays so that they do not interfere with moving parts or drawers in the Besta system. For example, cable ducts can be installed on the inside of the side panels, which are barely visible. For power connections, flat multi-socket outlets mounted on the cabinet base are a good solution – these can be secured with cable ties to ensure they stay in place. Cables should always have enough slack to allow for opening and closing the doors, preventing mechanical strain.

I also had concerns at first about whether I could do it correctly, but with some patience, the concealed cables can be very well integrated. My recommendation is to allow a bit more time for careful measuring and drilling to avoid frustration later on. If you’re worried the cables might be under too much strain, it’s better to leave a little extra slack at the openings.

Just make sure the cabinet has enough ventilation to prevent any heat issues. That’s an important point, thank you. Are there any recommendations on the best way to ensure air circulation inside a closed BESTA cabinet? Are small ventilation slots sufficient, or should you cut perforations in the back panel? I want to avoid heat buildup caused by the concealed cable connections and power outlets.
