usrisanHello everyone, I want to build my home office cabinet using the Ikea Besta system and integrate concealed cable connections. Specifically, I’m looking for an elegant solution to route power and network cables invisibly, without compromising the appearance or functionality. The modules should serve as storage for tech equipment and office supplies, but above all, cables need to be routed cleanly and safely. Does anyone have experience with this kind of modification, such as drilling, cable ducts, or special outlet solutions that can be well hidden within the Besta system? Thanks for any tips and recommendations!

Self-adhesive cable channels, which you attach to the inside of the cabinet back, also help to route cables neatly. If you want to integrate power outlets, there are also slim power strips that you can conveniently hide inside the cabinet. Just make sure the cabinet has sufficient ventilation to prevent any heat issues. If you have any further questions about this, I’m happy to help!
An effective way to integrate cable connections into the BESTA system is to use the original back panel modules with pre-cut openings for cable passages. These can be trimmed or modified with appropriate cutouts to create a discreet cable management solution. Additionally, cable grommets with covers are suitable, as they protect the cables and provide a clean appearance. For power supply, installing flat power strips is recommended, ideally mounted on the back of the cabinet. To ensure safety and reliable operation, sufficient ventilation should be maintained. Furthermore, the electrical load of the devices must not exceed the capacity of the power strip used.

I simply drilled holes in the back of my BESTA cabinet and used cable grommets. That sounds practical. What hole diameters do you recommend to allow enough airflow but prevent cable clutter? Also, did you remove the back panel or drill directly into the material? Thanks for your input.
I used a diameter of 6cm (2.4 inches), which is sufficient for several cables. The back panel is relatively thin; I removed it and then drilled a hole using a hole saw. Afterwards, I snapped in the cable grommets from Ikea, which also protect against sharp edges. This way, nothing can get damaged.
