Good morning everyone, I recently bought an Ikea PAX wardrobe and am now facing the challenge of attaching the doors as quickly and easily as possible. My question to you is: How can I install Ikea PAX doors with minimal effort while ensuring everything is stable, the doors are properly aligned, and I don’t spend too much time adjusting and assembling? I’m particularly interested in whether there are any tricks to make the installation easier or if it’s best to rely on the standard assembly kit. Thanks in advance for your helpful tips!
Hello HIRO69, your question is very well posed, and I can understand your search for efficient methods. When installing Ikea PAX doors, I always recommend approaching it with some preparation. Although the doors come with a standardized installation kit, the fastest method is not always the best for long-term stability.
My advice:
- First, check whether your cabinet carcasses are perfectly level, as this greatly affects alignment.
- Use the included drilling templates; they save a lot of time when marking and help prevent drilling errors.
- If you have the doors as separate parts, it is advisable to fully assemble all the hinges before hanging the doors on the carcass. This way, you can better adjust the hinges since you can secure them in a workshop-like environment.
- For alignment, it is best to use a screwdriver that allows fine adjustment— Ikea hinges usually have adjustment cams that enable small corrections in height, depth, and lateral position.
Do you have any special room conditions or particular requirements, such as different door types (mirror doors, sliding doors), that I should address?

Hey HIRO69! I recently finished installing my PAX doors and I can tell you: it’s much faster than you think once you get started! 😃 The key really is to align the hinges properly, otherwise the doors will hang crooked. My tip is: after attaching the hinges, don’t fully tighten the screws right away. Let the door hang loosely at first and then fine-tune the alignment. That way it goes super fast!
Just go for it and have fun – it’s really not that difficult! If you want, I can also tell you exactly which tools I used and which screws I found particularly useful. 😉

Hi, great question! 😄 Installing Ikea PAX doors properly doesn’t have to be complicated. My personal tip: Grab a coffee, put on a mood-boosting playlist, and get started. The hinges from Ikea are really well designed, so you can fix many issues just by fine-tuning them.
Just make sure to check the stability of the cabinet frame first, otherwise, it might end up a bit wobbly. Once you get the hang of it, the doors go on really quickly. The best part: a little adjustment here and there is totally normal with Ikea, so no need to stress! 👍

Align the cabinet vertically. I want to emphasize this once again. An uneven base will make the installation unnecessarily difficult. I personally use a spirit level to measure precisely and also check whether the mounting plate is properly positioned.
Furthermore, it can help to screw in the screws only finger-tight at first to check the positions before fully tightening everything. This way, adjustments can still be made without damaging the drill holes.
When installing the doors, I also recommend having a second person assist, especially if many doors need to be mounted.
