Hello everyone,

I am facing the following issue and am looking for practical solutions: I want to install IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets on my walls, but unfortunately, these walls are not flat and have significant irregularities and slight curves in some areas. A traditional installation by attaching the cabinets directly to the wall is therefore difficult because the cabinets won't hang level or sit flush against each other.

My specific question:
How can I securely and stably mount IKEA Metod cabinets on uneven walls without extensive drywall work or wall cladding? Are there practical tools such as certain spacers, special anchors, or mounting rails that can minimize installation effort while still providing a strong attachment?

I would greatly appreciate concrete tips, experiences, and proven methods that don’t require a full renovation of the wall.

Thank you in advance!

A structured approach is essential when dealing with uneven walls. It is important to first accurately measure the irregularities and mark the critical spots.

The following method has proven effective:
- Use self-leveling mounting rails attached to the wall. These can compensate for unevenness up to a certain degree.
- Shims or plastic wedges can be placed between the wall and the cabinet to achieve a straight alignment.
- For fastening, longer screws combined with appropriate heavy-duty anchors that hold securely in solid wall materials are suitable.
- Alternatively, special aluminum profile strips are recommended, as they allow for precise height adjustment.

This approach avoids complicated drywall work but requires careful measuring and adjustment. A secondary leveling layer also offers the advantage that cabinets can be readjusted at any time without altering the wall.

However, it is important to ensure that the aids used do not reduce load-bearing capacity and that the installation remains permanently stable.

By the way, adding a second layer for leveling has the advantage that you can always readjust the cabinets without having to alter the wall itself.

An interesting point, but I wonder if this is more about 'hiding problems' than offering a real solution. Who wants to constantly insert materials or screw around between the wall and cabinets when the actual issue is the wall?

I argue: If you want to take a firm stance somewhere, then in such cases, using a leveling frame or mounting rail really should be part of the basic setup. Anything else is just patchwork.

And honestly, IKEA Metod cabinets are not designed for infinitely flexible walls—you have to keep your expectations realistic.

My provocative thesis: Anyone hoping for a lot of improvisation here will ultimately have to expend considerable effort or make compromises. If the wall is a disaster, you should either fix it beforehand or build frame constructions right away. There’s no way around that.

- Use mounting rails
- Use plastic shims for leveling
- Use screws with long anchors
Avoid extra effort. Done.
