Harris36Hello everyone, I am planning to get the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe because I urgently need the storage space, but my apartment has very limited room. My question is: How can I assemble and position the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe in the most space-saving way so that it is stable but does not take up more space than absolutely necessary?
I have noticed that some people prefer to place the wardrobe directly against a wall, while others set it up freestanding to create additional access. Are there any tips on how to best arrange the shelves or inserts to effectively maximize the storage space inside the wardrobe later on? What should be especially considered during assembly when space is limited overall – for example, when opening the doors or regarding the dimensions?
I look forward to all experiences, assembly tips, or clever tricks regarding flexible use of the room’s height and width. Thanks in advance!

How can I assemble and arrange the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe as space-efficiently as possible so that it is stable on one hand but doesn't take up more room than necessary on the other?Hey, I think it’s great that you’re thinking carefully about the assembly! I felt the same way when I built the wardrobe for the first time. It can feel really overwhelming, especially if you have limited space.
What I can suggest is to try placing the wardrobe as close to the wall as possible. This helps a lot, not only for stability but also because it doesn’t take up extra space beside it.
Secondly, make sure to position the shelves so that you make the most of the space—you should measure beforehand what you want to store. For example, I left taller spaces for bigger items and used the upper shelves for smaller or flatter things. This gives you more flexibility.
One more thing: when assembling it, especially if it’s in a tight corner, always remember to install the doors so they open outward toward the side with the most room.
If you want, I can share photos or more details about my setup, but I hope this helps you for now!

To assemble the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe in a space-saving way, you should securely fix it to a stable wall. This not only minimizes the gap to the room but also increases safety by preventing tipping.
Regarding the shelves, I recommend a flexible setup based on the items you plan to store. Keep higher shelf heights available for bulky clothing or boxes.
Furthermore, the wardrobe is not available with sliding doors, so you should measure the door swing radius in advance, especially in tight spaces.
Summary:
- Attach the wardrobe to the wall side
- Adjust shelves according to your storage needs
- Consider the door opening radius
This will ensure optimal use of space as well as stability.
To assemble the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe in a space-saving way, I suggest the following steps:
- First: Carefully read through IKEA’s assembly instructions to fully understand the mechanical structure and mounting points.
- Placement: Position the wardrobe as close as possible to a wall, ideally in a corner. This keeps walkways clear and avoids unnecessary free space.
- Doors: The Brimnes wardrobe features traditional hinged doors. Install them so they do not catch on nearby furniture or walls. Check the opening angle on-site beforehand using a tape measure.
- Shelves: Measure the height of the items you plan to store before assembling. Then install the shelves accordingly to optimize storage space—higher compartments for larger items, lower ones for smaller storage.
- Stability: Always use the supplied wall anchors to prevent tipping, especially since this wardrobe has a slender design.
Common mistake: Many people overlook proper door installation and position the wardrobe too far from the wall, creating unnecessary bulkiness.
Conclusion: Spending fifteen minutes planning before assembly will save you a lot of space in the end. Good luck!

Be sure to use the supplied wall anchors to prevent tipping, especially if the cabinet has a slim profile.I fully agree with that! In tight spaces, I initially skipped securing it – that was a big mistake. The cabinet was a bit wobbly, and I didn’t feel comfortable.
One more piece of advice for the original poster: take your time during assembly. I did it in two stages and could better evaluate where there was room to adjust.

Are there also tips on how to best arrange the shelves or inserts to make more efficient use of the storage space inside the cabinet later on?I would recommend organizing flat items in stackable boxes and placing them on the shelves. This keeps things tidy and maximizes the vertical space.
