Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the installation of my new Ikea Metod kitchen and have an important question that means a lot to me: How can I assemble the Metod kitchen units so that they can be easily and flexibly modified later on? My main concern is to keep future changes or expansions as straightforward as possible.

I’m asking because I’ve heard that the modular design of Metod is supposed to support this, but I’m unsure which assembly methods, fasteners, or additional steps help to disassemble and reassemble the units later with minimal effort.

So, what steps are advisable, which mistakes should I definitely avoid, and are there perhaps special accessories or tricks to enable quick and damage-free modifications in the future?

I am very much looking forward to your tips and experiences!

Hello,

in my experience, the flexibility for modifications of Metod largely depends on the assembly expertise.

In addition to the many tips here, I would like to add that it is important to avoid gluing the fronts or creating fixed coverings that make disassembly difficult.

It is also crucial to repair any damaged spots on wooden edges or drill holes immediately during assembly using suitable repair kits, as small damages accumulate with reuse and make modifications challenging.

Furthermore, it is worthwhile to consider possible future modifications during the planning stage, for example by leaving potential exchange or extension areas with open joints or gaps.

One more tip regarding dowels: some users replace the wood-to-wood connections at the drill points with stainless steel screws and appropriate washers to improve durability when frequently taking the units apart.
