Hello everyone, I have ordered an IKEA Malm chest of drawers without drawers and now I am wondering how to assemble it correctly.

The tricky part is that I know the usual instructions for the Malm chest with drawers, but my version has no drawers, only one large front panel. How can I best assemble the chest so that everything is stable and the front closes properly later on?

Are the drill holes or screws arranged differently compared to the classic version with drawers? Or are there other tips I should pay attention to?

I would really appreciate detailed step-by-step help or advice on the differences from the regular assembly process!

The rows of holes for the drawers are no longer needed; instead, the front panel is attached directly to the side panels. Make sure to use the supplied screws for the large front, as these are often longer. Simply secure the front panel with the designated dowels and screws, and the furniture will be stable.

Here is a brief guide on how to correctly assemble the Malm dresser without drawers:

1. First, build the dresser frame as described in the instructions, but skip installing the drawer slides.
2. The front panel without drawers is usually attached directly to the side panels using concealed fasteners or screws. Check carefully for small drill holes in the side panels, as these are intended for the front panel.
3. Carefully position the front panel and align it straight using a square or a ruler before tightening the screws.
4. Be especially careful not to overtighten the screws to avoid damaging the material, and check the gap measurements.

A common mistake is fixing the front panel too quickly without proper alignment. Take your time and make sure the large front panel sits evenly on the guides. If the front panel wobbles, you can adjust by slightly loosening the screws and repositioning it.

Summary: The assembly is almost the same as the classic Malm, but for the front panel, use the drill holes for large fronts, naturally without drawer slides.

Great tip! 🙂

I assembled my Malm dresser without drawers myself last year and was really impressed by how sturdy it is when you pay close attention to even the smallest details.

One more extra tip: Use a cordless screwdriver with a torque setting during assembly. This helps prevent breakage and saves you a lot of trouble.

Also: Patience is key! Take your time to align everything properly, and the whole process becomes much more enjoyable. Good luck! ;-)
