Hello everyone,
I am considering how to effectively use the Ikea Pax system for storing electronic devices. I’m not only thinking about laptops or tablets but also smaller gadgets, cables, chargers, possibly external hard drives, or even peripherals like printers and routers.
I am especially interested in practical solutions for organization, dust protection, and above all good accessibility – meaning quickly finding and retrieving the devices. How can compartments, inserts, or other accessories be best combined? And does anyone have experience with installing cable management or ventilation in the Pax system?
Looking forward to your expertise and practical tips!

Building on what kulau and Oranfu have written, I want to emphasize the importance of monitoring temperature development. Especially with devices like network switches or routers, heat is usually generated and needs to be dissipated.
In DIY projects, I have partially replaced the back panel of Pax systems with a perforated metal sheet, which significantly improves air circulation. This can then be combined with fans connected to an internal power source—such as via USB or a power supply connection in a hidden power strip.
One tip: Do not store heat-sensitive devices in the upper half of the cabinet, and try to place devices that are running continuously at some distance from wooden surfaces. Also, insulate live electrical parts well and protect the wiring from mechanical damage using small tubing systems.
Regarding power strips: Yes, they can be installed behind a flap or fixed in place. Many people use multi-socket extension cords with surge protection and secure them to the back of the cabinet with cable ties or small brackets.

- Flexible arrangement of shelves to accommodate different device sizes
- Integration and planning of cable management to avoid tangled wires
- Ventilation through modifying the back panel or adding fans
- Dust protection using doors with seals or glass doors
- Installation of power strips with easy access and safety in mind
Additionally, there are special modular inserts available that can be integrated into PAX wardrobes, for example, to store small components or to neatly wind cables.
Please note: When installing power supplies, always pay attention to suitability and safety, especially for continuous operation – CE certification of the components is a basic requirement.
