Hello everyone,

I am planning to add doors to my IKEA Platsa cabinets and wanted to ask for advice on the best way to approach this. Specifically, I am interested in which doors are compatible, whether any special tools are needed, and if there are any particular tricks or tips to keep in mind during installation.

It would also be helpful to know if the original PLATSA doors are sold separately or if I should consider alternative options.

Perhaps someone has experience with this and can share tips on which screws or hinges are suitable and whether any modifications to the cabinet frame might be necessary.

Thanks in advance!

PLATSA doors are sold separately in the IKEA range, which is the easiest option.

The only tools you really need are a cordless drill and a screwdriver.

The assembly instructions are included by default. Just attach the hinges to the cabinet carcass and hang the doors, just like with other IKEA cabinets.

For clarification: PLATSA system doors are modular and specifically designed to fit PLATSA carcasses due to the row of holes and dimensions.

If your PLATSA carcasses do not yet have drilling for the hinges, you will need to accurately position these using a template.

Original IKEA hinges are recommended if you want functional precision and easy installation.

Alternatively, there are compatible doors from third-party suppliers, but be sure to pay close attention to the dimensions and the hinge hole spacing.

For installation: It is advisable to precisely mark the hinge positions and to lubricate the drill bit when drilling to prevent the wood from splintering.

Hey! 😊 I had the same project a few months ago and can say: it works really smoothly! I chose the original PLATSA doors simply because everything fits perfectly and there was absolutely no frustration.

That’s really good advice. All the holes were already there for me, but I did the same anyway just to make sure everything was aligned properly.

If you have some basic DIY skills and take your time, retrofitting the doors is truly a piece of cake. And it looks really stylish afterward—almost like brand new!

Good luck with the screwing! 🍀

Good evening,

I would like to add a few additional notes that are especially important for those who have an older PLATSA furniture system or where assembly is a bit more complex:

- Carefully check the exact dimensions of the doors in advance and compare them with your carcasses, as PLATSA comes in different depths and heights.

- When retrofitting doors, structural modifications to the carcass are usually not necessary, but precise adjustment of the hinges is important to ensure smooth closing movements.

- After the doors are installed, it is recommended to readjust the stops if needed. This can be done on the hinges using small adjustment screws.

I have retrofitted older carcasses myself without any problems, as long as I paid close attention to the hinge positions as described.

If you are unsure about marking or drilling, many people use a template or measure multiple times to avoid damage.

I hope this helps you.
