Hello everyone, I am currently considering how to retrofit the soft-close function on my already installed IKEA Metod drawers. These drawers are one of the standard models where I did not choose damped closing initially, which now turns out to be somewhat impractical – the slamming of the drawers is quite annoying in everyday use.

My question is: Is there an easy way to modify the existing Metod drawers so that they close softly and quietly without having to buy completely new drawers or slide systems? If yes, how exactly is this done, what should be taken into account, and which parts are needed? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

You can only retrofit the soft-close function on Metod drawers if your drawers have metal rail systems that are compatible with dampers. If so, you will need a soft-close damper cartridge or a suitable adapter that can be easily hooked in or screwed on. Otherwise, you will have to replace the rails completely.

In addition: The Metod series mostly uses so-called full-extension slides with synchronized ball bearings. For retrofitting, damping adapters like the "BLUMOTION" kits, which are installed between the drawer and the slide rail, are recommended.

Please keep in mind:
- The model of your Metod slides, as there are different production years and versions
- The maximum load capacity of the dampers
- Precise installation to ensure the damping works effectively

In practice, this usually involves a combination of clamp or clip mounts for the dampers, which you attach to the inside of the slide rail. It is not necessary to replace the entire rail if compatible dampers are available.

Basically, retrofitting soft-close functionality on older Metod full-extension drawers is not officially supported by IKEA. However, there are third-party manufacturers offering compatible damping units that can be installed with some DIY skills.

A few tips for the procedure:
- First, check the type of slide, ideally by comparing photos with the specific measurements
- Use soft-close modules designed especially for full-extension slides
- Pay attention to the installation location: the dampers must be positioned so they slow down the closing without interfering with the mechanism
- If the existing slides do not allow retrofitting with dampers, completely new TELESCOPIC slides with soft-close functionality could be an alternative

It is advisable to prepare the installation carefully to avoid damage or malfunction.

Exactly, for a simple implementation, it is recommended to replace the old drawer slides with models that have an integrated soft-close function. This reliably provides damping, is usually affordable, and prevents issues during later retrofit.
