Hello everyone,

I am planning to disassemble my Ikea Platsa furniture soon in order to transport it more easily and reassemble it at a new location. However, I have found that taking it apart is not as straightforward as assembling it, especially since many connections are quite tight and there are several types of screws.

My specific question is: What tips and techniques do you know for quickly and effectively disassembling Ikea Platsa furniture without damaging the fittings or wooden parts? Is there a recommended order for taking it apart, special tools, or tricks that speed up the process? I would appreciate a detailed and practical guide based on experience with this particular furniture type. Thanks in advance!

Loosen the screws, preferably using a cordless drill with forward and reverse rotation. First, remove the back panel, then take off the doors. Avoid applying too much force on the lever to prevent damage. Tools: A Phillips screwdriver and a hex key are usually sufficient.

Hello,

for dismantling the Ikea Platsa furniture, I recommend the following structured approach:

- First, carefully remove the back panel, as it is often fixed with staples.
- Then remove all shelves to gain easier access to the screws.
- Gently take off the doors, which usually have metal buffers or quick-release hinges.
- Use a cordless screwdriver set to reverse (counterclockwise) to loosen the screws, taking care not to apply force to avoid damage.
- Pay attention to the types of screws: usually there are connector screws (Minifix or similar) and wood screws.
- The order is important: first undo the outer fittings, then the internal connectors.

Tools should include at least a good Phillips screwdriver, an Allen key, and a flat spatula to carefully pry off the back panels.

This way, you can dismantle the furniture quickly without damage and keep all parts organized for transport. I hope this helps!

Honestly, if you try to disassemble too quickly, you risk scratches and stripped screws. Ikea furniture is modular, but not necessarily designed for fast disassembly.

It’s worth investing time and working methodically, rather than blindly unscrewing.

Also, the good old Ikea manual and the illustrated assembly instructions are your best friends – simply try mentally going through the assembly steps in reverse.

I find that having a wide range of tools on hand, including small pliers for bent parts or ratchet tools, makes the process much more relaxed.

So, quick disassembly doesn’t necessarily mean efficient or gentle.
