Hello everyone,
I recently purchased some furniture pieces from the Ikea Hemnes series, which are made of solid pine wood. Unfortunately, my living space is quite prone to humidity – the air humidity often exceeds 60%, especially during the colder months. So my question is: how can I effectively protect Ikea Hemnes furniture from moisture damage without ruining the natural look and feel of the surface?
I have heard about various sealants, but they often seem to seal the wood completely, which negatively affects its breathability. Are there any recommended methods or products that provide moisture protection but still allow the wood to breathe? I would appreciate practical tips, experiences with nourishing oils or varnishes, and advice on proper care in such an environment!

I would like to add that, besides oil treatment, it can also be helpful to slightly ventilate the inside of the furniture. Especially if the furniture has doors or drawers, condensation can form inside.
Therefore, I recommend occasionally opening the furniture and allowing air to flow through, particularly during the more humid months.
Additionally, a dehumidifier or a moisture-regulating device in the room can improve the environment, which ultimately benefits the wood.
Specifically for surface care: it is best to apply a maintenance oil thinly with a sponge and let it absorb well. After about 20 minutes, wipe off any excess oil to avoid leaving a sticky layer.
This way, you can protect Hemnes furniture from moisture damage without losing its natural appearance.
