rujanHello everyone,
I am planning my move in the next few weeks and have been thinking about the best way to safely and neatly pack and transport my Ikea Pax wardrobe. Since this wardrobe consists of several large panels and shelving parts, I would like to know if anyone has tips on how to disassemble, pack, and transport it with minimal damage.
In particular, I’m looking for advice on packaging the doors, the large side panels, and shelves, as these seem quite delicate. It would also be helpful to know if you recommend any additional protective materials and how you handle the transport itself to prevent damage.
I look forward to your experiences and ideas!

Interesting that you especially emphasize protecting the doors. But how effective is bubble wrap really against scratches on the mostly rather smooth surfaces of Pax? Padded moving boxes or special furniture covers might be more suitable, especially for frequent moving.
You should also consider whether the wardrobe will be fully disassembled or transported in modules only. Stability often suffers when it is disassembled into too many small parts.

For safely packing Ikea Pax during a move, I recommend the following approach:
- Disassemble the components into the largest manageable units possible
- Protect doors and shelves individually with bubble wrap or felt pads
- Use moving blankets for large side panels to prevent scratches and dents
- Collect screws, dowels, and small parts in labeled bags
- Secure the packaging with strong tape without stretching it to avoid damage
- Ensure a level surface in the truck during transport and secure the cabinet parts against shifting
This minimizes transport damage. Clear labeling makes stable reassembly easier.

Hey, I transported my Pax wardrobe last year and here are my tips with a smile: 😄
First, I carefully removed the doors and wrapped them in plastic wrap. I used very old bed sheets for this – super soft and reusable. Then I laid the large pieces flat on the car floor and secured them with blankets to prevent any shifting while starting or braking.
Pro tip: Place screws and small parts in small bags and stick them to their respective components – that way you won’t lose anything!
The wardrobe arrived undamaged, and the neighbors were curious why I used blankets instead of moving boxes. 😉

I completely understand that this cabinet means a lot to you. Moving is stressful, and safely transporting delicate furniture can sometimes feel overwhelming. I would suggest taking your time when packing and, if possible, having someone help you.
That really helped me too, as it keeps everything organized. And if you're worried about damage, maybe you could attach foam edge protectors? I've had very good experiences with those.
