The room has limited floor area, and I am looking for ideas on how to maximize storage while maintaining enough room to move around. I am especially interested in how to best combine the individual modules or whether it is worthwhile to use additional internal organization accessories. Does anyone have practical experience or tips specifically tailored to small spaces so I can arrange the Metod cabinets as efficiently and functionally as possible?
Hello Robenedi33, your issue is actually very common in small rooms. To make the most of Metod cabinets, it is crucial to first measure the available space precisely and then experiment with the adjustable depths and heights of the Metod modules. The following points are especially helpful:
- Use tall base cabinets to build up to the ceiling, which provides a lot of storage space without taking up extra floor area.
- Use interior fittings like drawers, cutlery inserts, and shelves to organize the storage efficiently.
- Corner cabinets with carousel or LeMans pull-out fittings help make the often hard-to-reach space more accessible.
- Plan cabinet doors with handles that protrude minimally to increase freedom of movement.
From experience, I recommend considering small details like lighting inside the cabinet or special storage systems during the planning phase.

Corner cabinets with carousel or LeMans pull-outs help to make efficient use of often hard-to-reach space. That sounds interesting, could you briefly explain what exactly LeMans pull-outs are and why they are particularly advantageous in small rooms? Also, would these units be suitable for narrow spaces, or are they more appropriate for larger kitchen layouts?
LeMans pull-outs are specifically designed for corner cabinets and work like this: a pull-out frame with shelves rotates out from the corner into the room, allowing full visibility and easy access to the contents. This is especially valuable in small rooms with awkward corners, where storage space is often wasted otherwise.
Technically, keep in mind:
- The cabinet must be a standard size compatible with LeMans pull-outs; this is often offered as an add-on by IKEA.
- Installation is somewhat more demanding because the mechanics and hinges need to fit precisely.
- The room layout should be carefully planned in advance, as very narrow walkways can still be restricted when the pull-out is fully extended.
In practice, I recommend leaving the floor space clear and instead investing in height and depth. What exactly are your dimensions? Then I could also help you with the precise design.

What exactly are you measuring? Then I could also help you with the precise planning. The room is only 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) wide and about 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) long, with the kitchen niche on one side. The maximum depth available for cabinets is 60 cm (24 inches), but it shouldn’t be too packed or make movement difficult. The ceiling height is 2.5 meters (8.2 feet). I’m open to suggestions on how to combine cabinets with greater width or depth without exceeding these dimensions.
