Hello everyone, I am currently planning to customize my Ikea Pax wardrobe a bit and wonder what options are available to visually enhance the cabinet doors without having to rely on expensive custom-made solutions. It is especially important to me that the options remain practical and can be easily removed without damage in case of a move or reorganization. Does anyone have experience with finishes like vinyl wrapping, adhesive films, or painting? Or are there interesting DIY ideas that can be done without professional tools? I would also appreciate tips on material selection, the effectiveness of coatings, and the time required. Looking forward to your suggestions!

I once covered the doors with self-adhesive vinyl film myself – it adheres really well, looks stylish, and with some patience can be removed later without leaving residue!I can’t fully agree with that. With some melamine/particle boards from Pax, adhesive residue can form, especially if the film has been on for years. So if residue-free removal is important, it should be tested first on an inconspicuous spot.

Last summer I completely redesigned my Pax and treated the doors with chalk paint – super easy to paint, looks natural, and gives the furniture a great vintage charm!Chalk paint is visually appealing, but the surface can be quite prone to scratches and dirt if it isn’t sealed. That should be taken into account when making a decision.
My advice: If you are considering painting or covering the doors, pay close attention to the surface condition and test the chosen methods beforehand to avoid unpleasant surprises later. Sometimes small changes like replacing handles or adding glued-on strips are more practical and sustainable than complete redesigns.
