Hello everyone, I am looking for a practical and simple solution to childproof IKEA Besta cabinet doors.

My children are very curious and keep trying to open the doors, even though there is nothing particularly dangerous inside. However, I want to prevent them from trying at all. It is important to me that the solution can be implemented with minimal effort – no major modifications or complicated installations.

Does anyone know of smart, effective, and childproof locks for Besta doors that can be quickly installed, preferably without special tools or extensive carpentry experience? I would appreciate concrete tips or firsthand experiences.

I used simple hook-and-loop fastener modules for my Besta cabinets.

I find hook-and-loop fasteners problematic because they can give way under heavy strain. The locking mechanism should remain secure, especially with small children who often pull strongly.

Magnetic catches provide a much more reliable solution and are still easy to install, especially on furniture with smooth surfaces like those from IKEA.

I can fully understand how frustrating and sometimes even scary it can be when little children keep getting into cabinets where you store things that aren’t meant for them.

I have two daughters myself, and we used magnetic locks – installation was really quick, and although it took a bit of convincing at first, the kids soon learned that some doors just have to stay closed.

Sometimes offering other distractions helps make the cabinets less interesting. But a secure lock simply gives you much more peace of mind, especially if you happen to forget to close the door.
