Hello everyone, I recently bought the IKEA Pax wardrobes and I’m facing the problem that I don’t want to drill into the walls of my rental apartment to secure the wardrobes. The wardrobes are quite tall and therefore quite unstable if they are not fixed. I am looking for a way to secure the Pax wardrobes without screws or wall plugs. Is there any alternative that provides sufficient safety without damaging the wall? I have already considered clamp devices or special feet, but I am not sure if these are really stable enough. I would appreciate any suggestions, preferably with information about load capacity and stability.

Hello gofar, I can fully understand your concerns, especially if your Pax cabinets have high-gloss fronts, which are delicate.

Regarding clamp supports: these usually press on the top frame or the cabinet’s top panel. If your fronts are made of glass, it is important to ensure that the support only rests on the sturdy frame, not on the fragile glass or mirror panels. Some clamp support manufacturers offer rubber buffers or padding exactly for this purpose – they prevent scratches or pressure marks.

Additionally, before installation, you should check whether the top cabinet panel or frame is solid and can bear the weight. Not every Pax type is equally stable in the upper area.

For laminate flooring, I recommend using anti-slip mats under the feet; these work well to prevent slipping and also protect the floor. These mats are easy to remove and leave no adhesive residue.

If you like, I can give you tips on which brands are known for these clamp supports and how to install them properly.

In summary: - Mounting Ikea Pax wardrobes on the wall without drilling is generally challenging, as stability is usually ensured by wall anchoring. - Tension poles connecting the wardrobe to the ceiling offer a solid alternative, provided the ceiling is flat and load-bearing. - Non-slip mats under the feet reduce the risk of sliding on laminate and other smooth flooring. - For glass or high-gloss fronts, it is especially important to pay attention to the pressure points of the support to avoid damage; padded contact areas are ideal. - Additional stability can be achieved by arranging several pieces of furniture as a unit. None of these methods offer the same level of safety as proper wall anchoring, so always check the tipping stability and, if in doubt, take extra precautions. If the wardrobe tips over, there is a significant risk of injury. In rental situations, it may be worth consulting with the landlord to see if a small hole for anchoring might be permitted.
