Hello everyone,

I have a somewhat “basic” question. I’m trying to figure out what type of connection is shown in the attached image (marked with “VAG”). There is a small cable attached on the side – could this possibly be a fiber optic connection?

The reason I’m asking is that some neighboring properties already have fiber optic cables reaching their plots, and we’re now unsure if the cable in question might be fiber optic as well.

Probably not, but I wanted to check anyway. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to reach the site manager or anyone else during the holiday period.

Thanks in advance for a quick answer to a layperson :-)

Happy New Year!

Best regards,
Jens

In my opinion, this looks very much like a fresh water connection. VAG is a manufacturer of water technology and fittings...

The large blue one should be an adjustable gate valve for fresh water. The orange one could very well be a conduit of that size for inserting a fiber pair, but there should actually be a plug on it.

A (protective) cable for fiber optic usually looks like this

Multicolored network cables next to yellow telecom cable tape on the floor.

Not necessarily. What you see in your picture are conduit pipes for cable trays. However, there are many different systems, for example, some that are installed inside existing water pipes. I will upload a photo of my fiber optic connection later this evening.

All right, I only know about mine, which is from Telekom and looks like this.
