ᐅ Gas Prices – Where Is Gas Still Affordable?

Good morning,

I just received a steep price increase from my energy provider enercity, raising the cost to 15 cents per kWh starting in August. That’s really tough, and I think prices will rise even further.

It’s a strange feeling to be thrown back so quickly into an energy supply situation where you have to figure out how to keep the house warm. It seems to me that the government has given up on the goal of enabling everyone to adequately cover at least their basic needs.

Goodbye central supply structures; now the winner is whoever has solar panels and a heat pump in their new build, while the others are left out.

Welcome back, coal heating 😕

Frustrated regards,

You have to thank the previous governments who were determined to phase out both nuclear power and coal at the same time and to fill the gaps by generating electricity from Russian gas. At the same time, citizens were encouraged to replace oil heating systems with gas. The current government can actually be blamed relatively little for this; their biggest mistake is probably that gas power generation was not ended earlier, by Easter, but only now are steps being taken that will have an effect in the autumn.

The current government is not entirely innocent.
Who has been in government since Kohl, except for four years?
Who pushed for the phase-out of dirty energy?

Honestly, if the war hadn’t happened, we would all be getting cheap energy through Nord Stream 2 and would be satisfied. As long as those in power don’t come up with any alternative energy plans that cost us money.

It seems you have overlooked the fact that renewable energies are by far the most cost-effective and are currently saving our backs (and France’s).

Aside from that, Nord Stream 2 was doomed to fail from the start and was nothing but a package of corruption. It wouldn’t have happened even without the bad people in the Kremlin. And only those who don’t care about the current widespread crop failures across Europe (“Food is available at restaurants anyway!”) could have been “satisfied” with the launch of Nord Stream 2. But hey: it might turn out to be a good vintage year!

The only thing you’re right about is that the SPD is doing a poor job and absolutely needs to be removed from government, and its leader should go to prison.

You are right about the corruption. Or what do you call it when a chancellor gives up their job and switches sides?
Still, how many people would have installed photovoltaic systems or chosen high-efficiency classes if these had not been required and supported?
Was the Renewable Energy Act surcharge welcomed with enthusiasm? I mostly remember complaints.
The crop failures would have occurred even without Nord Stream 2. Gas is better than nuclear and coal power. The high energy prices we are seeing now should have been prevented through the use of gas. Even environmental groups supported this.

The drought is preceded by a long process, yet there is still no change in thinking. The issue won’t be solved by Nord Stream 1 or 2 alone. Our entire lifestyle must be changed for that.

I’m not sure if we’re talking past each other.
Anyway, the situation is pretty bad right now, and we need to take action. In my opinion, all funds are much better invested in renewable energy than in that other stuff.

This forum can help all of us improve the situation a little, and for some individuals, it can make a significant difference.

Hello Deliverer

Ok, surely we agree that renewable energy is not capable of providing baseload power and never can be.
What is the idea then? To only make coffee when the wind blows or the sun shines?
