Hello,
I am very interested in a Rheinhaus. The house is great, the price is right, but the only thing giving me headaches is that it uses night storage heaters, meaning it is heated by electricity.
There is a gas connection nearby!
I estimate the connection cost to be around 3,000€ (about $3,200). Can someone roughly tell me how much the whole thing would cost (so that the heating system works)? Of course, I know no exact figures can be given, but what ballpark figure can I expect? Maybe I could negotiate the price down by that amount!
EDIT: Or an alternative heating source, since I would have to do some conversion work anyway!?
Thank you

Thank you for your completely meaningless response.
I'm sorry that I made a typo, and I'm sorry that, unlike you, I couldn’t attend German school and had to learn everything on my own! Sorry that my German isn’t as perfect as yours! That’s not how you make friends in life!
Eye cancer... yeah, right! Show some respect! I work just as much as you do and pay my taxes on time! Let’s see if you say things like that in private!

BamBamBam15 Oct 2014 09:28Hey, calm down everyone. It’s morning and already so much stress. 🙂
If I understood correctly, you need a gas connection, a heating system, radiators, pipes, and the labor to install everything. Since no one knows how large the heating system needs to be, how many radiators you require, or whether you might want to install underfloor heating, no one can give you an exact figure. Get advice from a professional and ask for several quotes. The gas supplier can tell you the cost of bringing the gas connection into the house.
Most members in this forum are mainly self-builders who have very different heating requirements than you.

Bauexperte15 Oct 2014 10:43Hello,
Replacing the night storage heaters alone is not enough!
You will also need radiators or, if you plan a complete renovation anyway and the existing floor construction allows it, underfloor heating. Assuming radiators and the required piping routes for a single-story house, you should be looking at around 20,000 EUR (about 21,500 USD). In an older building, it is also worth considering a domestic hot water heat pump or at least a hybrid system. Since costs vary significantly nationwide and nobody knows the condition of the terraced house, I recommend that "before" you make an offer, you consult a heating/plumbing specialist and have them provide a rough cost estimate.
Generally, the same applies in your case: never buy a house without expert advice! This means find an expert you trust and inspect the existing property with them. They can also tell you — by the way — how much the expected costs for heating system replacement will be. Depending on the condition of the property, additional costs may arise; for example, energy-related renovation due to heating system change. This knowledge is essential for making a financially sound decision and, on the other hand, for arranging reasonable financing!
Best regards, Bauexperte

There is a gas connection very close by!
I estimate the connection costs at around 3000€ (about 3200 USD). Can someone roughly tell me how much the whole thing would cost in total (meaning everything needed for the heating to work)? Of course, no exact figures can be given here, but what rough estimate can I expect? Maybe I can negotiate the price down by that much!
