ᐅ Experiences with gas or air-source heat pumps?

Hello experts,

one of many questions: What is more economical, an air source heat pump or a gas boiler? It’s just one of many points we hardly understand.

We were considering a photovoltaic system with an air source heat pump, but it seems clear that usually, the sun shines the least when you need heating the most.

Is the good old gas boiler actually more economical after all?

Thanks!

I don’t understand all these calculations! With an air-to-water heat pump, I don’t need a chimney flue (around 3000€) or a chimney sweep, and you also save quite a bit on heating costs annually with special heat pump electricity rates. So, after 7-10 years, you easily make up the difference and end up ahead compared to a gas boiler, not even counting the potential increase in gas prices!?

No. You don’t need a chimney flue costing around 3,000 € (3,000 USD) for gas – roughly, the investment costs for an air-to-water heat pump are somewhat lower if you include the solar thermal system. Heating costs tend to be higher or similar compared to gas.

Have you calculated how much you actually save? I did the math and came to an estimated €4/month (about $4.50/month), which a second meter saves me. So it’s negligible…

Same here – for us, the case for the second meter didn’t work out either. The basic fee is to blame...

According to my calculation, with around 3000 kWh and an 8-cent difference between the tariffs, I end up with €180 savings per year minus €50 meter fee!

Do you get the kWh for 16.8 cents with a 4.2€ (4.2) meter fee? Then hats off to you. We don’t have that here.
