Hello everyone,

Originally, we decided against a "floating" staircase (cantilevered staircase) and therefore did not make any special arrangements, such as a concrete wall.

The staircase now adjoins an external wall made of 36.5 bricks (U-value 0.09 – relatively porous).

Under these conditions, is it still financially feasible to install a floating staircase?

Attached is an example image of such a staircase.

Modern, bright living room with floating wooden staircase, glass railing, and parquet floor.

Has anyone possibly installed a staircase like this on a non-concrete wall?

Thanks and best regards

We have a bolt-supported railing staircase.
It is certainly not as complex as a cantilevered staircase, but for us, around 10 cm (4 inches) thick concrete cores had to be installed in the aerated concrete of the exterior wall to prevent the bolts from breaking out the aerated concrete. The aerated concrete in the interior walls had a different strength, so this was not an issue there.

Only the staircase manufacturer can confirm if this is sufficient, as they must provide the building approval / permit for the staircase.
