Hello,

I was shocked by the news about the six young people who died.

I’m wondering if something like this could happen in our case, since we have a newly built house with a fireplace and small children.

We don’t have any mechanical ventilation or similar systems; the fireplace is only used for cozy atmosphere and occasional heating. When it gets too warm, we tilt the window open.

We burn regular wood. Could something like this happen to us as well? The local chimney sweep included a note on the last invoice that he is happy to inform about and install carbon monoxide detectors.

What do you think about these concerns?

The general recommendation is at a height of 1.50 m (5 feet). CO distributes evenly in the air.

Sorry, I think I'm confusing it with CO2?!?

In the Eifel region, there's a spring where a candle goes out just below the knee...

For example, the ABUS Carbon Monoxide Detector COWM300, 37241

Where should I install it? Above the fireplace?

I’m considering that one too. According to Google, it should be installed in the bedroom(s).

I would always put them near the stove, so there is still time to react in the bedrooms. Especially if there is a ventilation system, I want to have enough time to wake up and rush outside with my child and husband.

Now this is interesting... I would also install the unit in the living room?

I mean, the fireplace is on, you’re sitting in the living room and suddenly collapse... getting to the bedroom is still a longer way away, right?
