ᐅ Is the interior coating of the exhaust duct asbestos-containing?

Hello everyone,

While replacing the ventilation in my guest bathroom, I noticed a strange coating on the inside of the pipe. The pipe itself appears to be made of plastic. However, inside there are cement-like remnants. These are gray, porous, and unevenly distributed. I am now concerned whether this material stuck to the inside of the pipe could contain asbestos.

The house was built in 1978. I am not sure if this area has been renovated.

Could someone possibly tell me what this material might be and why it was applied? Should I have it inspected?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Pictures are attached.

Best regards,
David

Gray PVC sewer pipe with deposits of urine scale, lime, and other unpleasant substances. There is no need to know the exact details.
No asbestos.

If that were found inside the exhaust pipe, I would still have some concerns, though for different reasons. In this case, I rather think of damp dust, possibly wallpaper residue? Even if there was something harmful in there, since it is an exhaust pipe, it doesn’t matter much.

I'm losing it. Seriously? Why?
1. Why would a ventilation duct be wrapped with asbestos?
2. Does he need to remove the duct?
3. Why does my head hurt from shaking it so much?

I misread that. I thought it was the drain pipe. However, it is a gray KG pipe. No asbestos.

It's simple: not so that you break down, but so that the original poster has certainty about _what_ it actually is!
Because, let's be clear: the people giving “advice” here are not professionals.

Ah, the exhaust pipe in the guest bathroom. Let me put it this way: it’s probably a mixture of dust, occasional moisture, and remnants of flatulence from different periods of the temporary visitors in this dwelling.
