Actually, we would prefer to avoid building. Unfortunately, existing properties within a 20 km (12 miles) radius have become quite expensive, and affordable rental houses with small gardens are simply scarce.
Until now, we have been living in an old rental apartment without a garden. We would like to change that, but there is a lack of options. The listings on various platforms are overcrowded with families looking for affordable housing.
Who is familiar with this situation, and how do you deal with it?

Yvonne, agreement is already more than I expect, as it is a personal perspective. And if someone younger than me dismisses it as old man stories from the past, that is also true—I am telling stories from the past. These early experiences are simply stored in my brain and shape my current view on things that I find exaggerated and unnecessary because they try to solve a problem that I do not see. Karsten
In my opinion, an additional bathroom specifically for children makes sense starting from about three kids. At home, we had two bathrooms (one with a shower and bathtub, one with only a shower) and a very small guest toilet...for 5 children plus our parents.
The three toilets were definitely useful, especially when we all wanted to leave at the same time, but the two bathrooms were sufficient. The smaller one was shared by three people, the larger one by four.

The master bathroom is, of course, internal and designed with luxury features that only an adult truly appreciates. Not so much child-friendly, hence the must-have children's bathroom.
