ᐅ Do you have a tendency toward perfectionism when it comes to your home?

You, like me, have probably noticed in various threads that I didn’t plan and think through everything in detail. How about you? Did you have clear ideas and were you able to implement them 100%? If not, what percentage of the result matched your planning and wishes at the time you moved into your house? How much or what did you change or wish for differently later on?
(Just one example: tiles in the bathrooms and/or on the floor. Some of you calculate, based on the tile size, which was chosen deliberately, whether and where “cutting” can be avoided or arranged in an aesthetically pleasing way. As mentioned, just an example, this is not meant to be a tiling discussion.)

@Pinkiponk Why do you always get so alarmed? Or why don’t you ask these questions here in time? Just like with the exterior lighting, your building partner is also giving nonsense here. It’s probably (once again) too late, but of course, tiled shower floors are possible even in a prefab house (actually rather standard). We discussed this in detail with the sample planner for quite some time, and he insisted that a tiled shower floor was not possible under any circumstances. Yes, unfortunately it is really too late, but I don’t see why it would have been rejected if it was possible. He also didn’t offer that it could be done for an additional cost or with a disclaimer of liability.[/QUOTE]
Addendum: Maybe it was a misunderstanding on our part. The shower floor in the show home is tiled, which we really liked, but I thought that since no one actually “lives” in the show home, it might be allowed there but not in a normal residential house.
Never mind, there are definitely worse things. I actually quite like the shallow shower trays because they are easy to clean.
Here is a brief technical explanation: you basically have the same floor as in a solid construction house, so it is definitely possible (see show house). However, you need to use cement screed, which should be used in bathrooms anyway (anhydrite screed is usually used in living areas). Additionally, the screed must be installed with a slope. This is generally not a problem but requires a bit more precision than simply pouring screed flat. Since you are building quite far from your general contractor’s location, they might assign a subcontractor who is unfamiliar with the project and therefore prefers to play it safe.

WilderSueden5 Jan 2022 18:11I don’t think we have a tendency toward the “perfect house.” I also don’t believe there is such a thing as a perfect house that lasts for decades. Life is too variable for that. Financially, it’s also a tricky matter; we can’t fulfill every wish. Not necessarily because it wouldn’t be affordable, but because, in my opinion, the house shouldn’t dominate the finances too much. There should still be room for other projects, like the dream of private early retirement at 60… or for unpleasant contingencies. And ultimately, some things just aren’t that important to me. Tiles are tiles, and if they look fine and fit within the budget outlined in the building specifications, then that’s good enough. I’m actually more apprehensive about the pre-selection process. We basically stumbled into housebuilding as an alternative to the overheated resale market, so maybe not everything is one hundred percent critical.
That said, there are a few things that matter to me. The building technology must be reliable, and a little luxury like level-access showers is a must. But under no circumstances do I want smart home gimmicks that end up exposing everything on the internet. That’s job-related 😉
And black is my favorite color, so a roof in anthracite fits perfectly. I’m also currently envisioning matching curbstones, and possibly a black-gray or black-ochre (“Muschelkalk”) tinted paving. The latter would go well with a possible Muschelkalk stone wall… 😉

Well, maybe this is a case of "when show homes 'lie'"...
